    2. Hello Betty, I have a cousin by this name that lives in Murray, Ky. We are related to the Colley's, but she would probably know more about them than I do. She was going to give me an email address at one time but she never did. Her home address is 1708 Ryan Ave, Murray, Ky 42071. I don't have a telephone number for her. Hope this helps. Travis Damron

    2. Ardilla N Johnson
    3. Since we have new subscribers to the list, I thought I would post my search list again. My Chandler's go back to Robert T. Chandler, born abt 1831 in Halifax Co, VA and migrated to Graves Co, KY sometime in the late 1840's. In the 1860's he was marrried and living in Hickman Co, KY. My Kigers go back to John Kiger who married Comfort Baker in White Co, IL in 1820 and was in Graves Co on the 1930 census. On the Bailey side, I can trace Rufus King Bailey to Graves Co in 1870 and already married to Sarah Burkett. I have Charles Wilkinson Blanton "C.W.B." Burkett in Graves Co on the 1850 census. Hope some of the new subscribers are researching the same lines. Nadene Johnson

    1. [KYJP] Marshall County - Vital Statistics Records - 1852-1859 - Births- Part 21
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - Today, we are returning to our review of the Marshall County Vital Statistics Birth records in the period 1852-1859. In prior posts, we had worked our way up to the year 1856, and we will continue with that year in tonight's installment. Subscribers to the JP and Marshall county lists who see a name in which they have an interest can request the complete dataset for that name(which normally includes the date of birth, the sex of the child if not obvious, the name of the father and maiden name of the mother)by sending a message to me requesting that information. As always, your help in not resending this entire message back to me with your request is greatly appreciated. Since we have some new subscribers, in addition to welcoming them, I probably should mention the fact that the JP Homecoming 2000 event is being planned for October 13, 14 and 15 of this year. Our Planning Committee will soon be resuming their meetings by chat room(we took a little hiatus during the holidays)as we go forward with the formulation of activities for that event. If any of our new subscribers would like to attend this gathering, and would like to have their e-mail addy placed on the special mail out list for information going to those who have indicated that they plan to attend, let me know by private e-mail and I will add your address to that list. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Marshall County - Vital Statistics Records - Births - Part 21 (M)=Male (F)=Female Bufford, James C. 1. [KYJP] Fw: Names misspelled on the CENSUS
    2. Terry Smith
    3. -----Original Message----- From: Terry Smith <seeme@snowhill.com> Date: Monday, January 10, 2000 12:23 AM Subject: Names misspelled on the CENSUS Hi All, Speaking of census enumerator's mistakes, here's one that you'd think would be obvious, but has caused our family's researchers a LOT of grief lately. While reading the hand written 1870 Census for Ballard Co,KY we came face to face with what I think COULD be a common mistake. One we should all probably watch out for --- my 2G-GF M.F. FIELDS was listed @ #92 and his brother Robert L. FIELDS was listed @ # 94 on that census. That info. is correct. However, even though they were from the same family & spelled their surname the same in all family docs we have, it looks as if the enumerator was not as careful as he should've been about dotting the "i" and looping the "e" in the FIELDS surname. OR--- he could've been dyslexic, OR tired and reversed the "i" and "e" when writing down the name. Well, maybe he was just getting "cross-eyed" by then <s>. Who knows? Whatever the case, just looking at the 2 different spellings we knew this to be obvious error. Sometimes the name looked like FIELDS and some times the name looked like FEILDS, in BOTH families enumerated. BUT the LDS had picked up on the spellings as TWO DIFFERENT families with TWO DIFFERENT surnames and has them listed as such in their databases all over the Internet !!! At best our FIELDS family is difficult to track, but this error really threw us, mainly because the FEILDS spelling is NOT listed in the SOUNDEX, so does NOT turn up in during normal searches ! So remember, just two tiny little letters reversed is all it took to cause major confusion in our research because someone may have for- gotten that little rule we all learned in school: "I" before "E" when after "C", except when sounding like "A" as in neighbor and weigh. <s> Terry & Martha

    1. [KYJP] Clark, Sudduth in Calloway County
    2. Roy and Joyce Collins
    3. Bill, Some time ago, August or so, you found my Benjamin Clark on the 1859 Calloway Co. Census. You also found L. Sudduth with daughter Julia Ann. I have scoured the 1850 census and had no trouble finding Benjamin with father William but I can not find the Sudduth family. Could you please tell me what house number they were located at? Below is a copy of the correspondence that we had. Thanks again for any help. "Checking the 1850 census of Calloway County, there is a Benjamin F.Clark, age 17, born TN, shown as a son of William Clark, age 49, born NC, and his wife Sarah, age 49, born SC. In addition, there is also a Julia Ann Sudduth, daughter of L.Sudduth, shown in the census. She was age 13 in 1850. L.Sudduth was born in VA, while the daughter was born in KY. I suspect that these are your people. I am curious, however, about what resource you used to obtain an 1856 marriage on Benjamin and Julia Ann, given the fact that the courthouse fire in 1886 destroyed Marriage Register #2, which ran from October of 1846 up to the time of the 1886 fire? I checked in the Calloway County Vital Statistics records for 1855-1858 and did not find the marriage there, although that is not definitive, since those VS records are woefully incomplete and inaccurate."

    1. [KYJP] Thanks to Diane
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - Just a quick note to say "Thanks" to our good friend Diane Annala for her work in having put together that list of my "Tips" series that she posted yesterday, with an amendment today. I had numbered a couple of the tips with the same number, which would cause some confusion, and Diane has added a suffix to those misnumered ones to make them easier to find. Diane does a lot of volunteer lookup work on the Graves County KYGenWeb Page(which I host), as well as helping with researchers needs in the border counties in TN. She is a true asset to our "family". -B ============================================================
