    1. [KYJP] "Mayfield Monitor"
    2. MikeF
    3. Nancy, Don Simmons of Melber has published a multitude of volumes of records from Graves Co. among other locations in the JP & elsewhere. These publications also include genealogical excerpts from the old Mayfield papers. You can write to him at PO Box 66 Melber, KY 42069. You will find his prices as reasonable as they come. He has a list of publications he can send you. Good luck Mike NMW31949@aol.com wrote: > Hello list, > My name is Nancy, and I am a new subscriber to the Jackson Purchase mail > list. 2. Hello list, My name is Nancy, and I am a new subscriber to the Jackson Purchase mail list. I am hoping to find lots of info on my ancestral families on this list, since they were all from around the Calloway, Hickman, Graves, Marshall, Fulton and McCracken counties of KY. Can anyone on the list tell me if there is any way to get old copies of the "Mayfield Monitor" or the paper from the city of Murray? Also, does anyone know if there was a community paper for the Calloway County area? I have seen an excerpt from the Mayfield paper published for June 19, 1895 that mentioned my G-g-g-grandfather in their social column, and I would like to know if it is possible to get more of this type of info. My KY families are: Chun/Chunn, Killebrew/Killebru/Killibrew, Grugett, Everett, Dill, Bazzell, Martin, Wyatt, and various "in-law" names such as Tibbs, Cox, Rust, Rule, Gilbert, Britton, and, of course, ... 2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I had planned on sending out some Hickman County data in today's data posting. However, after having keyed it all in, Windows decided to lockup my machine, which created the need for a reboot and the input data was lost as a result. Since I have so many requests still pending from last night's data post, I am not going to take the time today to rekey all of that Hickman data. I'll get it to you in a few days. We'll close out the week tomorrow with either another in the Skills Puzzler series, or something from the Tips collection. -B ============================================================

I have seen on microfiche in my LDS family history center an index of land claims in Illinois. It is arranged alphabetically. Some county histories, say of Logan Co., IL tell of the place of origin of many Illinois families. The stories may be as varied as the settlers were. Suggest you try (it's hard to access) familysearch.org and call up, if you can, the research outline on Illinois. Frequently there is a mini-history of the locality at the beginning of the research guide. Failing that, try to find in your favorite genealogical library a book called THE LIBRARY or THE REDBOOK. 1. [KYJP] ELLIOT-HUTCHINSON
    2. Lowe
    3. This is a bit of a shot in the dark. Three HUTCHINSON sisters, all born in Graves County, KY, were married in Clay County, TX in the 1880s after their family moved there about 1879. Two of the men who married them, Robert Humphreys and Charles Colley, were from Graves County. I'm wondering if the third man, J.R. ELLIOT, was also from Graves Co. I've noticed several ELLIOTs listed in the Graves Co. tax rolls in the 1870s and 1880s. So, if any ELLIOT researcher has a J. R. ELLIOT who married on 26 Jan 1883 Margaret Laluria "Lura" HUTCHINSON, b. 9 Feb 1855, near Stubblefield, Graves Co, KY, d. ? (after 1900), I'd be happy to share Hutchinson family information. The only other thing I have is that J.R. might have been a baseball player. -Debra Lowe

    2. Hi Lynn, I am afraid my connection to the Colley's does not go back very far. Carol Harrison may have additional information since she has done several family books on her lines. My Colley connection is that my grandmother's sister married a Colley. Carol was raised in Graves County near the Colleys. The other lady that started this thread said Carol had written a paper on the Colleys, so that would be your best bet to contact Carol. Hope this helps. Travis

    3. My friends - Although our last data post was also in Marshall County, I have some newspaper snippets for the 1890's from that County, and will start a new series from those today. These snippets are primarily in the 1890's. As is the case with all snippets, it may be anything from a notice that someone is visiting to a long death notice or a wedding announcement. If nothing else, they give us a flavor of life in those days. Subscribers to the lists I host who see a name of interest in the listing below can request the full text of the snippet by sending a message to me with the name of the individual for whom the data is needed. As always, your assistance in not resending this entire message back to me with your request is greatly appreciated. Given the length of some of these snippets, I ask your indulgence in prioritizing any multiple requests to avoid exceeding three names if at all possible. Names shown below which have a + sign after the male name are wedding announcements. -B +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Marshall County - Newspaper Snippets - Late 19th Century - Part 1 Lyle, Peter Counsell, Cora Collins, Mrs. W.H.
