    2. Hello everyone; It has been quite a while since I wrote to the list and I've noticed there are more people now so I thought I would write again I am searching for: John W. Flowers married Caroline VonMetz Witt. Their son, George W. was born 17Mar1850, died 8Apr1913 in Hickman County It seems Caroline is buried in the Columbus Cemetery. I don't know if George had any siblings. George married Virginia SMITH who was born in Dec. 1851. Death certificates say she was born Dec 1851 in Philadelpia PA but I can not find her family. She died 28Dec1937 buried in Columbus Cemetery. George was a minister of the Hope Missions. He served in a parish in Shelbyville KY and then moved on to Hickman County in 1878. George and Virginia had Perry Edward 27Nov1877 died 5Jan1914 buried at Columbus Cemetery; George Raymond 15Sep1879 died 29Nov1948 where unknown; Liston Raleigh Feb 1882 died unknown; Arne (?) June 1884; Virginia A. born unknown; Zeletta born Apr 1891 buried in Columbus Cemetery? Perry's death certificate shows he was married but I don't know to whom. George Raymond married Cressie Craig. Liston Raleigh married Margaret GEST who was born Mar1889 in CARLISLE KY They had Veneeta born 1910 in Kentucky; Virginia born 1912 in Kentucky; Murl Marie born 2May1913 died 5Jan1914; Liston Raleigh Jr. born 1916 and Harry Gest born 7Sep1921 in Obion County TN. >From what I've gathered so far, Liston, Harry and possibly young Virginia moved to Detroit Michigan sometime during or before 1936. If anyone is related or knows of the FLOWERS please let me know. Also, I am having a very difficult time finding anything on Margaret Gest's family. I think her parents were Chas J (CJ) and Susan GEST. Other surnames connected to this family are ROBERTS, and WELLS Thank you kindly for any and all help. plaleeze

    1. [KYJP] Graves County - 1840 Census - Heads of Households - Part 8
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - As we resume data posts this week, we are returning to our review of the 1840 population schedule census of Graves County. In the prior 7 parts of this series, we have worked our way through about one-fourth of the 1840 census, and we will continue with that review today. Subscribers to the JP and Graves-L lists who see a name of interest in the listing below can request the full age enumeration data for that individual by sending a message to me and requesting the data for that head of household. As always, your help in *not* resending this entire message back to me with your request continues to be greatly appreciated. Since we have about 10 new subscribers who have joined us over the past 48 hours, it might be a good time to remind ourselves that in the population schedule censuses in the US prior to 1850, only the name of the head of the household was recorded. The other people living in that household were simply stroked into columns which were age brackets. In the 1830 and 1840 census years, the age brackets, for both males and females, were: 0-5, 5-10, 10-15, 15-20, 20-30, 30-40, 40-50, 50-60, 60-70, 70-80, 80-90, 90-100 and 100 and Upwards. The data report may look like this: 000100001 020100011 The male age enumerations are on the left and the females are on the right. The figures represent the number of people in each age column reported on the census. Tomorrow, we will move back into Calloway County. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Graves County - 180 Census - Heads of Households - Part 8 Johns, Joel Evans, Wm F. 1. [KYJP] Reprint of St. Jerome History Book Fancy Farm Kentucky
    2. Pam Ellegood
    3. I have been notified today that there is a possibility of a reprint of the St. Jerome History Book Fancy Farm, KY If enough interest is there then the church will start the process of a reprint. I will submitt a list of names of people interested in purchasing this book. I do not have a cost yet but I would guess that it will be between $40-50. The history book includes 89 detailed family histories plus local history of Fancy Farm and the school. I have discussed this with Bill Utterback, he thought that I should post this information to the list and that there would be many subscribers interested. I am from Fancy Farm and I do research on many of the surnames from that area. I have no monatary interest in this post. It is just I wanted to pass it along If you have an interest in purchasing this book let me know. My e-mail address is pelle@wk.net Thank you, Pam

    1. [KYJP] Looking for brothers of Hugh M. Bedwell
    2. Hi I'm new at this searching over the Internet but I've certainly enjoyed becoming one of the Jackson Purchase List. I'm looking for two brothers and their families. As we understand there were three Bedwell brothers who came from NC, who traveled to a "river" possible in east Tennessee, where they separated, one going north, one south, and one west. The one who came west is my ancestor, and we do not know what happened to the other two. The first records I can find on Hugh M. Bedwell are a tax list for Marshall County, Tennessee in 1839. It shows he was taxed $1.12 for 145 acres of land. Hugh moved his family from Tennessee to Calloway County, Kentucky between 1839 and 1840, as he shows up in the 1840 Calloway County, KY census with a total of 5 members in his family. Hugh was born 7 April 1815, died 24 December 1881. He was married to Elizabeth (?) who was born 18 September 1816 and died 19 August 1894. They had 6 children, Marcelles C., Archibald C., Mary M., John J. (my great grandfather), Minerva and a stillborn infant. I do not know the names of the two missing brothers, but maybe someone out there can join these pieces together. I have much information on John J. Bedwell's family from 1875 through 1993 if anyone is interested. I can be contacted at jfitzpa757@aol.com Thanks, Judy FitzPatrick jfitzpa757@aol.com

    1. [KYJP] New JP Land Grants Text File No Available - "H" Surnames (Part) - File LG828
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I am dropping by today to let you know that I have another installment ready in our continuing series on the land grants made in the 8 counties of the Jackson Purchase region. This segment continues with more of the surnames which begin with the letter "H". Specifically, the surnames included are: Hellum, Henson, Henderson, Hendricks/Hendrix, Hensly/Hensley, Henry, Herndon, Herrin/Herron, Herring, Hester, Heslep, Head and Heaton. Subscribers to the lists I host can obtain a copy of this file by sending a message to me requesting it , using the file number : *LG828*. I will send the file as a plain text attachment to an e-mail message, unless you specify that you require it to be sent by straight e-mail(which tends to skew the columnar alignments). You will receive the entire file - time constraints do not permit me to extract data on individual surnames from these files. This file will be added to those now shown as available to list subscribers on the JP Land Grants website. Just as an aside, someone asked me recently what I planned to ultimately do with all of these files when the land grants series is complete. These files will be exported into a spreadsheet program, and cross-indexed by land locations and names, so that we will be able to pull up a tract of land, and see who the first owner was(the grantee), and vice-versa. So there is a plan for these files. -B ============================================================

    1. [KYJP] Tip # 41-D - 18th & 19th Century Legal Terminology
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - Today, we will close out the week's data postings with a continuation of the series on legal terms in use in the 18th and 19th centuries. In this segment, we will look at some of the terms which begin with the letter "O". Some of these terms may be ones that you will never see - much depends on the state in which you are searching and on the time frame. The more arcane terms generally are those that are seen in the 18th century. Nevertheless, it is good to have an overall knowledge of these terms - we never know when we might run upon them. We have 8 new subscribers who have joined us in the past 72 hours, which brings our current subscribership to 599 - we are about to hit the 600 mark. I want to welcome the new subscribers, and invite them to post their research needs for the 8 counties of the Jackson Purchase region here to the List, so that we can try to be of assistance in their quest for their roots. The Jackson Purchase Images web site is available, as well, as is the JP FAQ site(the URL's are in the Welcome Message that you received). The searchable JP Archives, which contains the 3000+ messages which have been posted here over the past 26 months, as well as my 400 data posts, can be accessed here: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=KYJacksonPurchase-L Again, welcome. As is customary, there will be no data posts per se over the weekend, but I hope to return with a land grants file, and I am hoping to finish transcribing the narrative of the slave, to which I have referred earlier. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 18th & 19th Century Legal Terminology - Cont.
