She was Laura Belle Hurley, who was the daughter of Jasper Newton Hurley "Newt", and granddaughter of Spencer Hurley and Julia Hurley. I have a photo of Jasper, his wife Matilda, Laura Belle, her husband Clay Franklin Jones and their daughter Mamie Jones. Mamie is my husband's grandmother. Newt was a country doctor and his death certificate is on file at the Jackson County Health Department. His cause of death is a cerebral hemmorage. Matilda had cancer which was on her forehead. In the picture she has a white bandage on her forehead. Newt being a doctor, was the one who treated her. It has been told to me that when Matilda died, she never stiffened from the time she died until the day she was buried. Today people wonder if maybe she had slipped into a coma and was thought to have been dead and was buried alive.
