    1. Jacob Lakes: Who are his parents?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Lakes Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5AB.2ACE/3113 Message Board Post: Jacob Lakes I am trying to find information about Jacob Lakes that is listed on the US Census for 1870 living in District 3, Rockcastle, KY. This Jacob Lakes is shown living with a dry goods merchant and others that are not related. There is a second listing for Jacob Lakes for that same year that shows him living in River, Jackson County, KY. The Jacob Lakes living in River, Jackson County, KY is listed as part of the family of Thomas and Susan Lakes. I believe these two entries are indeed for two separate Jacob Lakes’ but cannot find any information for the Jacob Lakes that lived in District 3 of Rockcastle County, KY that connects this Jacob Lakes to a specific Lakes family. For a time I started to believe that it was possible that the two entries were for the same person and that the reason for being listed twice was just an error by the census takers that did not account for Jacob’s whereabouts at different times within the same census year. I thought maybe he had been counted at home with his family then gone to work for someone and been counted again. I no longer believe that to be the case because the names show up again on the 1880 census as two separate people. On the 1880 census it shows that both Jacob’s were living in Horselick, Jackson County, KY. District 49. The Jacob Lakes that had been listed as living in River, Jackson County, KY had married Elizabeth Johnson and had three children living at home at this time. The children were: Thomas, age 6 (most likely named for Thomas Lakes who would be this child’s grandfather), Edward, age 5, and James, age 3. The other Jacob Lakes that I cannot connect to a set of parents is listed on the same page of the 1880 census (US CENSUS 1880, Kentucky, Jackson, Horselick, District 49 page 10, lines 7-11). This Jacob Lakes had married Eliza Ann Johnson and had three children: Jerry, age 7; Edward, age 6; and James age 2.. Later census records show they had additional children including Ted, Tommie, Rhoda and Suckie (just type it like I see it). They also had a child named Jacob W. Lakes who is not listed on the 1880 census because he was born after the date the census was completed and there is no record of the 1890 census available so I cannot provide a census record that shows him as part of the family. Jacob married Fama Anne Lunsford in 1899 and on the census for 1900 he is listed living with her. Even though I have no census data that shows Jacob W. Lakes as a child of Jacob and Eliza Ann Johnson Lakes I do have other documentation and personal knowledge that shows this informati! on is accurate. Does anyone have ANY information about who the parents of the Jacob Lakes that lived in Rockcastle and later married Eliza Ann Johnson? With all the similar information for both these Jacob’s I am thinking that possibly Thomas Lakes may have had a brother that could be the father of my Jacob Lakes. If anyone has ANY information on this family please contact me at: clashell@insightbb.com
