    3. Researching the subject Jackson Co., Surnames I am posting this obituary for my g-granduncle Leander Hoskins' wife Lucinda Hurley. Lucinda Hurley was born and raised in Jackson County, KY. It appears that Lucinda's sister Emma Hurley married James Blevins McCOWAN; her sister Josie Hurley married Brack McCOWAN. These two McCowans' father was William Gabriel McCOWAN who was my g-grandmother Lucy McCOWAN Hoskins' brother. Lucy McCowan married my g-grandfather Robert Hoskins, brother of Leander who was married to Lucinda HURLEY. Patti Smith Obituary for Lucinda Hurley Hoskins >From HAMILTON JOURNAL Newspaper Hamilton, Ohio May 9, 1951 Mrs. Hoskins, 72, Called By Death Mrs. Lucinda Hoskins, age 72, 225 Warwick avenue, died Tuesday afternoon, 3:30 o'clock, at Fort Hamilton hospital of a heart condition. She suffered a stroke a year ago. Born in Jackson county, Ky., October 14, 1878, the daughter of Thomas and Osciller Wathen Hurley, she attended school in that locality. She married Lee Hoskins, September, 1897, in Jackson county. They made their home there and near London, Ky., until they came to Hamilton 26 years ago. She was a faithful member of the West Side Baptist church, and her greatest interests were in her church and her family. Loved for her pleasant disposition and ingratiating personality, she had many friends. Member Of Family She leaves her husband, Lee Hoskins; two sons, Silas, Hamilton, and Albert, R.R. 5, Hamilton; four daughters, Miss Elizabeth Hoskins, Hamilton, Mrs. Howard Browning, Hamilton, Mrs. Smith Philpot, Hamilton, and Mrs. Stanley Rice, Hamilton; one brother, Edward Hurley, Hamilton; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Huff, Corbin, Ky., and Mrs. Emma McCowan, London, Ky.; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the West Side Baptist church, 154 Gordon avenue, Friday morning, 10:30 o'clock, with Rev. Ernest A. Petroff, pastor, and Rev. V.B. Castleberry, associational missionary, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill park., Friends may call at the David Webb and Sons funeral home, Ross avenue and South D street, Thursday, after 4 o'clock.
