Some of our more recent information about Eliza is that she did not speak English and that she was buried with her Bible, which was written in another language. Yet we do not know what that language was. Family tradition indicates that the family was "Black Dutch." This often referred to Cherokee or other tribal heritage. Do you know if the Lails were either Dutch or American Indian? You mention Obediah and Nehemiah as brothers. We also assumed that was their relationship but now have come to believe that they were othewise related. We belive Obediah to be the son of William Ross and Sarah (Sally) Noland (Noling). Our more recent research (Madison Co., KY marriage records) has led us to believe that Nehemiah's parents were more likely John Ross and Mary Skinner. (Nehemiah's son James had the middle name Skinner.) We belive Mary Skinner's mother was a different Sarah (aka Mary) Noland, so the Nolands, Skinners, and Rosses seem to also be in an entertwined relationship. If you happen to know the town, county, or township in which the Lails were living in Illinois in the early 1800s, I would very much appreciate knowing. Thanks again, and keep in touch.
