Surnames: Hammons, Hammond, Hammonds, Hammans Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5AB.2ACE/3092 Message Board Post: Searching for any info on Mary Hammond(s) of Clay, Owsley, Jackson Counties, KY., born abt 1796 in South Carolina. She first appears as head of household in Clay County in 1830. She appears in each census thereafter through 1870, still head of household in each. She has childern from 1828 until 1838, listed as Franky (female), Arthur, Calista, and Jeff. Her last location in 1870 was Grayhawk and I believe she was always in that area around McKee and it was just the county boundries that were changed. I can't seem to connect her to the Hammons in Knox County nor the ones in Morgan/Montgomery County. She is a real mystery. Does anyone have a connection to this strong Lady? Carl Hammond

Ive been following your posts about the Sams family and I am quite interested in them because Orlena Sams mother was the sister of my g g great grandmother Martha Susan Carmack. I have been looking through the census and I did find Orlena married to a James McDowell either in the 1920 or 1930 census. In the house is a Daniel Floyd, a Delbert Floyd, and a Brackett Floyd. Is that your Delbert? It says born about 1912 or so. Maybe its possible the boys changed their names to Sams for some reason. Orlena has been a hard one to trace. I think in the 1900 census she is living with her parenst and is listed as Mrs Orlena Floyd. With at least oone son named possibly Lemuel born about 1894. Do you by chance have a complete list of Delberts siblings? Would love to know more about Delbert. Kim
I am showing William David Lear b Sept 09, 1877 as marrying Roda Elizabeth Cole July 14, 1898 Jackson Co KY. Showing William David Lear as a son of Mary Lavina Summers who married Thomas Lear JR in Laurel Co KY. Showing Mary Lavina Summers as a daughter of Allen Summers and Sarah Forbis/Forbus/etc who married abt 1830 Laurel Co KY. Now I am very curious about the wife of William David Lear; Roda Elizabeth COLE. I am showing a James COLE b abt 1866 KY married to Melissa Belle Forbis/Forbus/etc b abt 1869 KY who died abt 1898 in Dalaney, Madison Co AR. I am also showing a Mary Catherine COLE who married James Garrett Forbis/Forbus/etc on April 08, 1880 Jackson Co KY. Mary Catherine Cole also apparently died in Dalaney, Madison Co KY. Looks like a strong connection of the Coles of KY and AR to the Forbis/Forbus/etc family line of Clay/Rockcastle/Laurel/Jackson Co KY. I am curious if anyone can help with any of the people mentioned in this query? Thanks for sharing. ! 'R.E.'

The Summers connect to the Forbis/Fabush family through the Tussey's. John S Tussey married Elizabeth Forbis/Fabush of Laurel Co KY. Elizabeth is a daughter of William Forbis JR and Adeline Parker who married March 1, 1845 Laurel Co KY. William Forbis JR is a brother to my gggrandmother Anna Forbis-Henson (married to George W Henson, George b abt 1799 NC). George Henson was found in the 1828 Laurel Co KY Tax List and by 1860 left Laurel/Jackson Co KY for Webster/Maries Co MO. Another way the Summers connect to the Forbis/Fabush/etc is through the Lear family. Thomas Lear married Druscilla Forbis (a sister to my gggrandmother Anna Forbis) on April 06, 1834 Laurel Co KY and they had a son John T. Lear who married a 'Deborah Summers' in June 1854 Laurel Co KY (who is Deborah Summers?). So you see there are connections all-around to the Summers family line which also connects to my George W Henson line of Laurel Co KY. Thanks for sharing. If Caroline Bullock's father is David W Bullock, then he would be a son of John Clark Bullock and Isabella Bowman who married Dec 29, 1836 Owsley Co KY. David W Bullock was a 'twin' to Mary J Bullock, both born in 1846. David W Bullock was in the Civil War and died Feb 28, 1862. David was listed in the household of his parents in the 1860 Jackson Co KY Census. Thanks for sharing. 'R.E.' Hinson Jr ... gggrandson of George W and Anna Forbis-Henson of Laurel/Jackson Co KY. I am showing Thomas J. Lear, married to Mary L. Summers abt 1877 Jackson Co KY, being the son of a Thomas Lear and Mary Fagan. I am not a Lear family researcher, so maybe you should only accept this information as 'a good lead' to double-check. I am showing Thomas J. Lear and Mary L Summers had a son William 'Davis' Lear b Sept 09, 1877 Jackson Co KY. I am also showing William Davis Lear had a brother Thomas Lear Jr who married a Mary Summers. Thanks for sharing. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5AB.2ACE/3089 Message Board Post: Hello the list! Please excuse the cross-postings. I realize that many researchers subscribe to multiple lists and probably don't want to receive more than one copy of the same message; however, I'm trying to reach as wide an audience of Kentucky historians and genealogists as possible so please bear with me. We are actively engaged in digitizing scarce and out-of-print 19th century map and atlas data for use in genealogical and historical research of this period of Kentucky's history. Each month we receive a number of requests for specific material; either individual maps of a specific region or county atlases from a specific period. Until now, there has been no urgency to document requests for material, and the requests have been handled more or less piecemeal. With this in mind, the short questionnaire below was developed. If you are interested in hard to find research material that is configured for compatible access from your computer, please take a couple of minutes to respond to the five questions below by e-mailing me directly off-list. questions@historic-atlas-series.com Again, thank you for your time and cooperation. 1.) What features are you most interested in when using 19th century atlases and maps in your research? Land owners? Industrial or Commercial site locations? Place names? Transportation routes? 2.) What statistical and historical atlas data do you find most useful in your research? Population? Agriculture? Geological Data? County Histories? Biographical Sketches? Illustrations of People and Places? 3.) What specific region or regions of Kentucky are you most interested in? Please list all counties of interest and any specific material you would like to have computer access to. Include any known bibliographic references. 4.) For general material listed in question 3, please provide the periods of time or date ranges of interest. Again, for specific requests please provide bibliographic reference. 5.) When using research material that has been formatted for computer access, which is the most important: Resolution and detail of the images for printing? Speed of loading and access? Thank you for taking the time to reply to this questionnaire. questions@historic-atlas-series.com We value the input of folks who ultimately will use research material that has been configured for use electronically. Your comments, suggestions and requests for material will be recorded and prioritized, and will influence the kinds of material we continue to make available for researchers such as yourselves.
