That is all I know about that lineage but I suspect we are all related by more than one line! Thanks for introducing yourself. My sister and I are planning a research trip in Oklahoma, probably next spring, I suspect. I hope we have what information we have in some sort of system by then. I wish we had known sometime during the last 10 years in which we had been making several trips a year to check on a maternal aunt who lived in Chickasha. Perhaps when we do go, we could meet. I do live in Colorado but have spent a fair amount of time in Oklahoma. An aunt on my mother's side lived in Chickasha for 70 years and my maternal grandmother. Thanks for the info on Godfrey and Louvernie's burial. It is amazing how quickly we are getting information thanks to you and others on this board. We have never researched the Gabbard side at all. My sister and I visited the former home of Katie in Lawton at 7 N. 6th just a few years ago. It is a beauty shop now. Katie and Jacob had one son, Glenn Bishop Gabbard. Glenn (my dad) married Ruth T. Goodknight and had 2 girls - me (Glenda R.now Holmes) and Carol L.

Uncle Perry went to Pennsylvania in the 70's to visit Uncle Jake. My dad did not remember, or at least did not mention Jake. I had always thought Uncle Jim was the oldest of the boys. I remember seeing Katie's name in a Lawton phone book years ago and a few years ago found her listed in an old Lawton City directory. This is getting good! We do seem to be talking about the same people. My sister talked to the daughter another son of Godrey and Laverie (or Luvernia/ie), James H. back in the 70's to find out as much as we had. She was the one who called the father/grandfather Jacob - "Black Jake". My grandfather was Jacob, who probably was the oldest child of Godfrey and Lavernia. Jacob married my grandmother, Katie Bishop in Hobart, Oklahoma around 1912 or so. My father was born in Hobart in 1914. We have letters that from "Jack" from Pennsylvania where he moved to sell insurance. I don't have the records here; my sister has them in Texas. I am starting to compile a record on the computer so we both can have all this. We think my grandmother and grandfather were divorced, but have no proof yet. My grandmother never talked about him. Ah - family secrets!! We too have no one close to ask as well. We probably have distant cousins who might know something we have not contacted. As I said, I am just getting into this, and my sister put it aside 30 years ago. If you have more information, I would love to have it - with the risk of being overloaded with data before I get organized here. Glenda Holmes

Gabbard, my grandfather, had sons Jake, Jim, Ike, Ted, (my dad) and Perry. I may have missed some one. I also remember Aunt Sarah and Aunt Grace. Most of the family died while I was fairly young and my dad died when I was 19. I missed out on a lot of family information. I do have some family pictures however! Ike has daughters still in Anadarko. Jim has some family left in the eastern half of Oklahoma. I will have to find all my records of the families. I just can't find them this minute for some reason. Anyhow we are related. would love to hear from you and compare notes. Please email me. I am in Lawton, OK. Are you at all famiiar with southwestern OK? By the way. Godfrey died in Carnegie, not Mountain View. I have a copy of the newspaper article about the accident. He and Louvernie are both buried at the Carnegie cemetery. Hope to hear from you again.

I think we are probably talking about the same people here. My Grandfather Godfrey G. Gabbard was the son of Jacob "Black Jake" Gabbard, according to the information that I have. Godfrey also had a son named Jake. They came to Oklahoma in the early 1900s. It was a fairly large family. Godfrey died in 1919. My Dad never talked about his family very much and now when I really would like to have some questions answered, there is no one left to ask! I have seen the name Godfrey Isaacs before and while I am fairly sure there is some connection, I am not sure just how. Godfrey was not a name that was used that frequently in any of the families that I have looked at. Please email if there is any information that I have that might be of use to you. Would love to compare notes!
