The Forbish (Forbes, etc) family of early Clay/Rockcastle and later of Laurel/Jackson Co KY and the McCammon family were connected 'by marriage' and the McCammon family was connected to the Chestnut/Cathers families 'by marriage'. My George W Henson (married to Anna Forbish, daughter of 'William Forbish') of Laurel Co KY is connected to these early Kentucky families. See George Henson in the 1828 Laurel Co KY Tax List and 1850 Laurel Co KY Census in the household of John Drew and 'Ibby'. The son of Rev War Vet John Forbis (Forbes, etc) of Clay/Rockcastle/Laurel Co KY had a son 'William Forbish' who married Sarah McCammon on Dec 02, 1808 Clay Co KY (consent given by William McCammon, Sarah's father). Sarah McCammon is a daughter of William McCammon and Anna Cathers ... Anna McCammon's brother, William McCammon, married Patience Chestnut on Dec 02, 1808 Clay Co KY. I noticed that a Thomas Chestnut who owned land on the Rockcastle River, married Rebecca Parker (daughter of a John Parker) on Jan 27, 1841 Clay Co KY. Thomas Chestnut lived next to John Drew who lived on property close to a 'McCammon Fork' off of 'Laurel Fork' in Laurel Co KY. Does anybody have any additional information on these early families mentioned and does anybody know the person that 'McCammon Fork' was named after. Thanks to everyone reading this and for sharing any information on these early families and for answering any of these questions. 'R.E.' Hinson Jr, direct descendant of Rev War Vet John Forbis (Forbes, etc) and George W Henson/Anna Forbish-Henson of Laurel Co KY.

Thank you for your response and for looking up the cemetery information. I had hoped that the grave of Isham Smith and his Wife Larken Abner Smith would be among those buried there and were the reason for the cemetery's name. The "ISAM" buried there would have been my Ishams grandson. He was born in 1845 according to the 1860 Jackson Co. census. The spelling of the name varies, sometimes it is Isom or Isum. We lost track of Isham and his family with the 1840 Clay County census, he would then have been about 50 yrs old, and hoped that he could be found thru his son Charles's family. No joke is intended, but this looks like another dead end again.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5AB.2ACE/3124 Message Board Post: Seeking historical information on these two Jackson County pioneer families. Smith family researchers are in need of any information that descendents may have of Isham's parents. Currently we believe that Isham's father was also named Charles but we have no reliable information on who his mother was. We believe that both Isham and Charles and their wives Larken Abner and Margaret Anglin are buried in Jackson County on Jack's Ridge in the "Isham Smith" cemetery, about 5 miles S.E. of McKey. If local searchers can confirm this we would greatly appreciate your help. It is believed that Isham died about 1850 and Charles about 1875. We also are in need of the names of Isham and Larken's other children. The 1840 Clay County census reports they had at least 7 children, 4 sons and 3 daughters, but the only name known of a child is that of Charles. Charles and Margaret had 5 sons and four daughters shown in the 1860 Jackson County census. ---Charles 39, Margaret 34. James 16, Isham 15, Jane 12, Susan 10, Nancy 8, Elizabeth 6, Speed 5, Green C. 3 and Lafayette 1. Information concerning the location of their farms would also be of interest. Our thanks for any help you can share with us. We are cousins descended from Charles Smith who settled in Kentucky in the late 1700s.

I and several cousins are seeking any information we can find about the History of the Charles Smith and Margaret Anglin family and their descendents. We know that Isham Smith and Larken Abner were Charles's parents. We have heard that Isham and his son Charles are buried at the "Isham Smith" cemetery in, Jackson Co., Ky., on Jack's Ridge, about 5 miles S.E. of McKey. We would like to have the dates of their deaths if this information is available.. We also know that Charles and his wife had at least 9 children, 5 sons and 4 daughters. The 1860 Jackson county census shows the following: Charles, 39, Margaret, 34; James, 16; Isham, 15; Jane, 12; Susan, 10; Nancy, 8; Elizabeth, 6; Speed, 5; Green C. 3 and Lafayette, 1. It is our hope that some of their descendants might have information on who Isham Smith's parents were. We believe his father's name was also Charles but have no idea who his mother might have been. We would certainly like to hear from you if you can help solve this mystery.

My grandfather, on my dad's side, was Charles H. Thompson, Jr. He was born in Madison Co., KY in 1918. Unfortunately, he was killed in Burma during WWII in 1944. His mother, my great-grandmother, was Mary Thompson, married to Charles Sr. Her parents were W. James and Nancy (Azbill) Purvis. Mary was first married to William Thurman. He passed away, and she married Charles Sr. in 1916. She had two children when she was married to Mr. Thurman, one named Geneva, and a son, Harry. I was wondering if anyone out there are also decendants of W. James and Nancy Purvis, my great-great grandparents. I show they were from Jackson Co., KY and I assume my great-grandmother, Mary Thompson was from Jackson too, before moving to Richmond. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

One of my cousins sent me the Nationwide Gravesite Locator website. Some of you may already know about this website and have used it while others may not. Sending it as I was able to pick up some dates on my Amburgey Families. If you type in the surname you are researching, it will bring up all the individuals that are in the database. Lots of luck. http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/j2ee/servlet/NGL_v1 Carter
