I have also seen the 1850 census records that list Matthew as having been born in MD in 1774 and Catherine Magee Cole as born in VA in 1782. My understanding is that Catherine was one-half Cherokee, but I haven't found any information about her parents yet. I have complete information about the descendents of Charles George Cole who was in the Union Cavalry and also can trace the Cecil line back to John Sollers of MD. My uncle says that his grandmother, Margaret Cecil Cole, corresponded with Zerelda Cole (the mother of Jesse & Frank James). He says there is a connection, but didn't know where it was. I will be glad to share (and of course) receive information about these families. Judith Cole Schrim Mack

My William Elijah Stewart was born in 1873, so she couldn't possibly be his mother. Is there another William Elijah in that line in the late 1800's by any chance? I can't seem to find much information on him to work with, but i do have the names of his children and wife if that would help? Thanks again for your time.

I'm looking for a Levi Hymer, married to Anna J., with children John, Lewis, Rose E., and Sidney. This family was last found in the 1880 Estill County census record, and Levi was 27 years old then. A family story is that Levi was shot and killed on the steps of the Jackson County Courthouse. I don't know a date, or the circumstances of the shooting. Does anyone have any information about this? Thanks, Debbie

He married my great-great grandmother Letitia (COLE) ANGEL and they had Maude, Etha, and Jackson together. His stepchildren were Mary Alice, William, Frank, and Elizabeth (I think I have them all listed, but forgive me if I forgot one...I'm doing this by memory). No one in our family has ever heard of him having children with the names you mentioned or having been married before, so I think you can rule him out of your search. The ANGELs are a tough bunch to figure out. There were a lot of them and too many with the same names. In the 1880 census alone I think I found about 7 James ANGELs and my great-grandmother was married three times...two of those marriages were to two men named James ANGEL!! All I can say is thank goodness for middle initials!

Relative of Sam McQueen; You give no other name, Sam Mcqueen in Jackson County had three brothers that lived in Clay County and were near neighbors to my family when I was a youngster. The brothers were; Tom, Nathan and Theo. I have been told that their father was born a McCloud and was raised by a McQueen. Sam was known as "Hog-Eye Sam. Once he was arrested for killing a rabbit out of season. He employed Hector Johnston as his lawyer. Hector had him plead that he had killed the rabbit in self defence. The jury expecting such a plea from one of Hector`s clients, laughed so hard they could come to no other verdict than "not guilty."
