This is William Wylie McGregor (1867-1935) he was the son of Samuel Alfred & Elizabeth R. Franklin McGregor. I don't know who gave the information for the obit but they didn't get some of the info. correct. William Wylie McGregor was married to Maryann Rebecca Crisp who had died in 1930. Their children were: Avah Ellen McGregor McGregor (sp. David Francis McGregor - a cousin), Minna Lee McGregor (sp. Robert Daniel Alexander), Samuel Alfred McGregor (sp. Minnie Parolee Pollard), Alva LaDora Belle McGregor (she is still living at 100 years of age as of this date), James Wylie McGregor (sp. Margaret Virginia Clayton - he was married more than once but this was the mother of his children), and Mary Lorena McGregor who died less than a year old in 1909. William Wylie McGregor's father, Samuel Alfred was the son of James McGregor and Elizabeth Chappel, James was the son of William McGregor who moved his rather large family to KY from South Carolina c. 1812. His last son was born in SC however he already owned land in Hopkins Co., KY and the move was on. This "original ancestor" William McGregor was b. c. 1772 in probably NC, not Scotland as is often found on the web and in other sources. I can find no evidence that he was born in Scotland and there is a great deal of evidence that indeed he was from some of the McGregors of North Carolina. Most of the McGregors who come from the Hopkins Co., KY area descend from this man and his 7 children (possible 8 children). All of the children were born in SC and moved with the family to Hopkins Co., KY. These children are as follows: John (sp. Mary A. Franklin), Samuel (sp. Elizabeth Jones), William (sp. Elizabeth Waid), James (sp. Elizabeth Chappel), Moses (sp. Sarah - this family appearently moved to ILL), Mary "Polly" (sp. William Preston Fox), and Dison/Dyson (sp. Margaret Goodaker).
