This is not the same person who I am searching for - Jesse's step sister Jane Ray Wilson who married Benjamin Wilson in Harrodsburg, KY and inherited 200 acres on the Green River in the Henderson Tract in 1835 from the terms of General James Buntin Ray's will. Your line is decended from General James B. Ray's first wife Amelia "Milly" Yocum or Yokum. He later married my 4 great grandmother Elizabeth Talbot, sister of US Senator Isham Talbott. Hugh McGary had first married General James B. Ray's mother, Elzabeth Buntin who had been married to John Ray or Wray prior to his death. She is listed on a plaque in downtown Harrodsburg, KY as being one of the first four pioneer women in the territory of Kentucky as a settler. After her death, Hugh McGary married General James B. Ray's first wife's sister, Catherine "Catsy" Yocum or Yokum. I am still looking for Ray family members who moved into the Hopkins Co. area and later into IL, Iowa, MO, and Texas with members of my Duncan family, McGary family, Frost family, Yocum family, Alfred (or Alford) family, and Wilson family.

Surnames: MORTON, TOWNES, MAY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4AB.2ACE/5068 Message Board Post: Would appreciate a lookup for Mortons in Hopkins Co., KY in 1830, 1840, 1850. Trying to locate Mortons who are connected to the Samuel Morton family found in Daviess County on the 1840 and 1850 census records. As Hopkins is a neighboring county so to speak would like for someone to see if Morton's with given names, William, John H.B., George H.,Richard, David, or Samuel Morton are listed there. The Samuel Morton with wife Mary A. is the only one I can document. Facts I know are that a George H. Morton and Thomas Morton are found in Izard Co., AR on the 1850 census. Thomas is 20 and living in the household of George H., 41. Both were born in MD as was the Samuel Morton found in 1840,50 in Daviess Co., KY. A marriage record was found in Muhlenberg Co., for a Geo. H. Morton and a Mary Ann Townes and I believe this couple to be the same George H. and Mary Ann Morton found in Izard Co., AR in 1850. Her age would prevent her from being the mother of the Thomas Morton found! in their household, but perhaps she was a second wife as I do not know the relationship of the two Morton men. In the 1860 Izard Co., census there is a Thomas Morton, only. George H. Morton must be deceased by 1860. There is a Ann Morton widow of a John H.B. Morton found in 1860 izard Co., and living in her household are the widow and young children of the Samuel Morton from the 1840 and 50 Daviess Co., KY census. If the Mary A. Morton who married the Barney May as listed above is (Samuel and Mary A.) oldest daughter, then she died in KY in 1856. Samuel Morton, b. 1800 and Mary A. Morton's youngest child was a daughter, Mary E., born in 1855 in AR. So I believe that Samuel and Mary A. Morton left Daviess Co., KY about 1855, perhaps after this older daughter died. The common thread is the birth state of MD for all of these Morton men, but I do not know if or how they are related. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Contact: dbton@yahoo.com

Thanks to Annette Davidson, we have a brand new collection in our Days Gone By section. There are 36 photos and an obit in this collection. If you are researching the Lovan/Loving, Bourland, Sisk, Wilkerson, Woodward and others in the Mortons Gap area, you won't want to miss it. This collection includes photos of both some of the subjects and headstones from the Salem Cemetery in Mortons Gap. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyhopkin/daysgone/davidson/ Annette says she has more to share with us too, but I've asked her to hold off until March since I'm getting ready to take a much needed 2 week vacation soon. I also have some other surprises in store for you once I return. <tease, tease><grin> Enjoy! nt

Surnames: McGregor Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4AB.2ACE/269.1358 Message Board Post: Just thought I would post some corrections on this information so if anyone runs across it the corrections will be on line - I realize this message is rather old. This is William Wylie McGregor (1867-1935) he was the son of Samuel Alfred & Elizabeth R. Franklin McGregor. I don't know who gave the information for the obit but they didn't get some of the info. correct. William Wylie McGregor was married to Maryann Rebecca Crisp who had died in 1930. Their children were: Avah Ellen McGregor McGregor (sp. David Francis McGregor - a cousin), Minna Lee McGregor (sp. Robert Daniel Alexander), Samuel Alfred McGregor (sp. Minnie Parolee Pollard), Alva LaDora Belle McGregor (she is still living at 100 years of age as of this date), James Wylie McGregor (sp. Margaret Virginia Clayton - he was married more than once but this was the mother of his children), and Mary Lorena McGregor who died less than a year old in 1909. William Wylie McGregor's father, Samuel Alfred was the son of James McGregor and Elizabeth Chappel, James was the son of William McGregor who moved his rather large family to KY from South Carolina c. 1812. His last son was born in SC however he already owned land in Hopkins Co., KY and the move was on. This "original ancestor" William McGregor was b. c. 1772 in probably NC, not Scotland as is often found on the web and in other sources. I can find no evidence that he was born in Scotland and there is a great deal of evidence that indeed he was from some of the McGregors of North Carolina. Most of the McGregors who come from the Hopkins Co., KY area descend from this man and his 7 children (possible 8 children). All of the children were born in SC and moved with the family to Hopkins Co., KY. These children are as follows: John (sp. Mary A. Franklin), Samuel (sp. Elizabeth Jones), William (sp. Elizabeth Waid), James (sp. Elizabeth Chappel), Moses (sp. Sarah - this family appearently moved to ILL), Mary "Polly" (sp. William Preston Fox), and Dison/Dyson (sp. Margaret Goodaker). Hope this helps someone out there. I have further information on these lines if needed. Ann Hamor ahamor@att.net

Amanda, I have corresponded with you in the past regarding Joseph Denton and Ida Dunlap. I am the person that you sent the picture of Ida Dunlap to. I wanted to let you know that I have not discovered any further information on Joseph Denton. Nor have I found anyone that can identify the picture as my Ida Dunlap. But I haven't given up hope. I have found another marriage for my Ida. She married T.B.(Thomas Browder) Templeton in Christian County, Ky. on May 18, 1922. So that brings her up to five marriages. I was looking for an Ida Davis that married a John Trail when I found this marriage. My family had told me that she had married a John Trail at one time and I figured she married him after her marriage to Evan Davis but I was wrong. Now I have to start over and look for an Ida Templeton that married a John Trail. Oh, what fun. LOL! I did find a marriage license in Hopkins County on a Nora Denton that got married around the same time as my great-aunt Nora. If you recall Ida had three daughters that got married when they were just children, one of them being Nora Denton. But the Nora Denton that got married around the same time as my Nora Denton, was in her thirties and it was her first marriage. I was thinking that maybe she was Joseph's sister and Joseph and Ida had named their Nora after her. Just a thought. I have a copy of the marriage license. It does not have the name of the bride's mother or father on it. It just says that they were married in the bride's home. If you have found any further information please let me know. I am curious about where Joseph Denton died and what of. My email address has changed.
