They all came together from England to N.Y. and then Ky. and ended up in Orange Co., In. Their occupation : tailors. He was born in Hopkins County in Kentucky on Sept. 22, 1926 to the late Oscar Lee Summers, who died in December 1954, and Bertha Jane Dillingham Summers, who died in 1950. He was a Navy veteran and retired from Anaconda Copper as a copper miner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard Summers and Kenneth Summers. He is survived by one daughter, Diana Payton of Madisonville; one son, Robert Alan Summers of Jackson, Tenn.; one sister, Maxine Adams of St. Charles, Ky.; two brothers, Oscar Townes Summers of Providence, Ky., and Neil Summers of Dawson Springs, Ky.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with the Rev. Fred Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Providence. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Madisonville Messenger December 6, 2001

Elizabeth who married Russell Gray Aug. 20, 1809 Thomas who married Chaherine(Catherine) Beck Aug.5, 1812 Sallie who married Zachariah Clinton Oct.11, 1821 Nathan Hanks who married Seeny Henry Mar. 4, 1821 John Hanks, no record of marriage. They together were the founders of the Hanks family in Hopkins County.......My guess is the Gatlins & Hanks traveled together from N.C. to Tn. to Ky.
