In my marriage book, I find that J. W. VAWTER married Mattie R. JOHNSON on 3 January 1868. Since J. W. VAWTER died in 1930, have you checked his death certificate for names of his parents? Also, both records show the name JOHNSON and not Johnston. Additional marriages which might connect to the persons you list are: David I. VAUTER md. Elizabeth Ann WATERS on 3 June 1836 [they could be parents of Sanford], John WATERS bondsman John VAWTER married Mary E. NICHOLAS on 25 March 1840, father D. J. VAWTER Barbara
