    3. Paul, Do you have any information about the Troxell family? I am looking for Stephen Troxell who was a harness maker in Henry Co., Kentucky in the 1850 & 1860 census with no children. He was born about 1816 in Ohio and was buried on July 24, 1865 in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville. He was living in Louisville at that time and his widow Priscilla in listed in the city directory after his death. I have been unable to find her death. She is not buried with him. His wife was Mary Priscilla Meriwether, daughter of Valentine Meriwether and Priscilla Pollard. I do not think they had any children. There is a 14 year old girl living with them in 1850 named Arminta Cowder. (Handwriting not clear.) In the 1860 census they are living in Pleasureville, Ky which is right on the Shelby - Henry Co. line. In 1870 she is listed as Mary P. Troxell, age 59, born Kentucky living with Mary Meriwether ??, age 52, living in Louisville. I'd appreciate any help on this family. Sharon Spike00@kih.net

    3. Sharon, I read your query and looked up Troxell family in my 1850 Henry Co census and my Henry County History book. The History book does not mention Stephen Troxel, but does have a story on the Troxel family that was written and submitted by Thelma Jean O'Bryan Walker, who lives at 1998 Balltown Rd in Bardstown KY. She mentions old time Troxell family members: 1st) Peter Drachsel (Dutch spelling) and Juliana Catherina nee Frawhuger of Berns Canton, Switzerland who emigrated to America with his wife and two sons Peter Jr and Daniel, Aug 1733 to Philadelphia PA. They were german speaking Swiss. They had thirteen children. With the exception of son Peter Jr and Daniel who stayed on in the Allentown settlement in Lehigh County, PA, the rest of the family moved on to Frederick Co, MD, where Peter Sr died in 1766. Some of children moved on to Loudon and Augusta Co, VA and then some moved on to Kentucky. It looks like David born 1734 Bucks Co, now Lehigh Co, PA moved to Frederick Co, MD with his father and then on to Loudon Co VA and later on to Augusta Co, VA. he had eight "known" children. It looks like he stayed on in Augusta Co, VA. Then the story goes on to mention 2) Peter Troxell, who was born 1760/65 in Frederick Co, MD located to Augusta Co, VA ca 1791 where the firast records are found and is located on census Augusta Co for 1810-1840 where he and his wife are listed. Peter probably moves to Pulaski Co, KY where he is in the Tax list for July 1800and in Wayne County 1810 and 1820. Seven known children born to them. Then on to mention 3) George S "Jack" Troxell, born ca 1794 Augusta Co, VA m 1st Sarah Sally Rice 3 Apr 1816 Henry Co KY and Married 2nd ca. 1842 Nancy Hammond/Hammons, lived in Lockport Henry Co, KY. Then, 4) John Troxell born ca 1825/26 married Susanna Rice 25 Jan 1846 Henry Co, KY, died by Mar 1857 about 32 years old. She went on to marry Leonard Boren , 1885. These are the main descendants that might help you in your search. Perhaps Stephen was one of the "unknown" children to the submitter of this story. The Troxell story was given on Pg 221 thru pgs 223 of Hebry County KY history book. Hope this will help you in your search. I am researching the Fox family James and Elizabeth Colclaser/Kalklaser Fox) who came to Henry County from PA and Md, and I have never found any clue to their roots before 1850 Henry County in all of my years of research. James Fox was a Carpenter. so if you come accross that name please let me know. They moved on to Livingston County, KY.
