Surnames: McFarland, Madley, Pierce, Traub, Deich Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4AB.2ACI/56.1 Message Board Post: I realize your post is an old one and I can't recall if we've been in contact. I lost more data than I care to think about due to a corrupted back-up when I transferred data to a new comp. The McFarlands you mentioned in your post are in my tree. Most of them moved to IN. I believe Richard is buried in Taswell. And I think there was another daughter. (Sorry, I don't have my notes in front of me right now.) One story tells how the family travelled by wagon, crossed the river at the "old stone wharf", settled in So. IN, and lived in a log cabin. The younger Nathaniel was my gr-gr-gr grandfather. He and his wife are buried in Patoka Memorial Gardens after the relocation of numerous small towns when Patoka Lake was made. I believe the town they moved to was Newton-Stewart. I think this part of the Patoka area is in Orange Co. However, in the 1850 Census they were still in Oldham County and Richard had already married and moved out. He too was still in Oldham county. The McFarlands were stonemasons and I've heard stories that they built several of the buildings in La Grange including a stone depot. Before 1850 I have found tons of conflicting data and haven't done much research. Other 'family historians' have traced them east through KY into Virginia. Then, back to PA where the McFarlands' allegedly bought land from Wm. Penn. Then on to County Tyrone, Ireland and finally back to the Scottish Highlands. I'm not sure what to believe yet. This surname seems to confound lots of researchers because it's such a common name-- with lots of Roberts, Williams and other common names. I have documentation for some of this information and old letters from family members telling stories that I can't prove one way or the other-- yet. Have you had any luck? I'd love to hear from you if have. Thanks. Tina (McFarland) Goins
