I don't know his father's first name, but his mother may have been Catharine and he might have had a brother named Solomon. He moved to Hendricks County, Indiana by 1850 with Nancy (wife?) and John (son?). He married again in 1865 to Mary Ann Lipe Jordan and had 2 daughters, Martha and Mary. The family moved to Wilson County, Kansas in the 1870s. John died there in 1883. Any help appreciated.

    1. James Coleman
    2. Some of you folks have made a mistake on the Casey Co., Ky. Daniel Coleman & the Henry Co., Ky. Daniel Coleman. You MIGHT want to change your Coleman file and correct your books that have been published. Daniel Coleman of Casey Co., Ky. Father: Samuel Coleman. I haven't proven it yet, but Sam was married 3 times. Mother: Millie Coffey born: 1794 in Va. or possibly in Lincoln Co., Ky., now Casey Co. death: abt. April 1, 1853 in Casey Co., Ky. married: Polly Durham Dec. 24, 1822 in Casey Co. Polly born: 1800 Polly's death: Shortly after the August 1850 census was taken. Daniel & Polly had 8 children Daniel & Polly were first cousins Both are buried on Knob Lick Creek Casey Co., Ky. A barn has been built over their grave along with 14 other people's graves. The Gab Wall, that settled the Daniel Coleman estate is buried there , he still has a stone, which is a miracle. If I'm not mistaken, I don't think I'm wrong, Daniel's cabin is still standing there on the creek. This cabin may have been his fathers before he and most of his family moved to Todd Co., Ky. Daniel Coleman of Henry Co., Ky. Father: Stephen Coleman Mother: Mary Ann Foree born: July 26, 1794 Prince Edward Co., Va. death: June 10, 1853 Married: Mary Jeffries 1818 in Shelby Co., Ky. 6 miles from his farm. Mary Jeffries born Dec. 24, 1796 Shelby Co., Ky. death:June 14, 1850 Henry Co., Ky. Daniel & Mary had no children, but Daniel's second wife gave him a son James Daniel, James was born 1851 in Henry Co., Ky. Both are buried next to their home, 2 miles off any road, at route 421 & Beasley Lane. Their house was lived in till 1940 when it burned. The foundation is still in tact & the well has water in it also. I got pictures of the stones and area, it is beautiful place for a home. Daniel & Mary loved 16 miles from Stephen & Mary Coleman, Daniel's parents. Stephen & Mary's house is still lived in as of this date. My brothers & 2 cousins rebuilt the Stephen Coleman cemetery last summer. Daniel lived 10 miles from his cousin, William Lawson Coleman. The William Lawson Coleman house & cemetery is one of the most beautiful places one could visit. The spindle that William L. was hung on during the Civil War by Union troops, was finally replaced last summer. My brothers, Earl "Dickie" Coleman, Harvey Dennis Coleman, and I have spent two and a half years, 50,000 miles plus, over 2000 dollars, and a lot of time, on the research on the two Daniel Coleman's and that is our findings. You folks can do what ever with your Coleman History File, that is our conclusion. The land of Samuel & Daniel, there's 300 acres still being farmed on today in the Casey Co., by their gggg-grand-daughter. James "Sonny" Coleman 9209 Link Rd. Loveland, Ohio 45140 513-793-1719 [email protected]

    1. COLEMAN
    2. Thomas S. Fiske
    3. Dear Sonny & Listers Your Henry Co. description was interesting because of the COLEMAN connection to my GGF, William S. PRYOR of Henry Co. He married twice. His first wife was Mary COLEMAN BRINKER. She died leaving him two children--Joanna and Samuel. Joanna married David CASTLEMAN and had lots of Castleman kids. Samuel did not marry and lived almost a hundred years 1853-1953 (I draw no conclusion about marriage from his experience, but I did know Uncle Sam Pryor). W. S. Pryor married a second time to Mary Apphia BEAZLEY of New Castle (which is why I think the road you mentioned was Beazley and not Beasley). Mary Apphia Beazley's ggm was a FAURE', a name that changed over time to FORE and FOREE. Your Coleman email makes me think there was far more interlinkage of families in Henry Co than I imagined. Tom

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4AB.2ACI/449.2 Message Board Post: My husband and I got married in Jeffersonville, Indiana in 1951. The reason we went there was KY required a three day wait after getting your marriage license but you could get the blood test needed in one day. You had a three day wait on the blood test in Indiana and no wait on the marriage license. Those laws had been in effect a long time according to my grandmother. I am under the impression a lot of people in surrounding areas that bordered the Kentucky and Ohio River in the earlier years went on the river boats to get married there if they lived on the KY side of the river.

Of course, it's a subscription service. They have Indiana Marriages, 1845-1920 and Indiana Marriages prior to 1850. You can tweak it by putting in Clark County in the third box and it will bring up just those marriages for that county. It asks for a person you're searching, the spouse, and the third space for keyword. Ignore this name and email....it's my networked email......Email me privately at [email protected] if you need me to search for anyone in Indiana. Donnie

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4AB.2ACI/449.1 Message Board Post: Hey Vernon, I'm not an expert on this, but from what I've been told, there was no waiting period in Indiana. Neither was there a blood test requirement. It was a same-day marriage as if you'd eloped out of state. You would get your license at the time of the marriage ceremony by the justice of the peace. I've found Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana to be the marriage choice for many families in my tree from just about every county around here, including Henry. Their marriage database has to be an extraordinary one. My parents lived in Prospect, Jefferson County and still went to Jeffersonville to get married. They wanted it all done the same day....and they married in 1956. I'm not so sure Jeffersonville has fallen out of favor yet......since Kentucky no longer has a blood test requirement.....but there still is that waiting period.
