For those of you that don't know, The Union County, KY Museum has been **Condemned**. The Union County Genealogical Society is in the process of trying to obtain the The Old Officer's Club, that houses the Beautiful Paintings and Murals that were painted by a Prisoner of War. (See http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyunion/prisoner.htm) Along with the Museum being condemned, EVERYTHING in it!! Only TWO people in Union County have access to Resources that are stored in the Old building on W. McElroy. And Even they are NOT suppose to remove anything, They check the building on a regular basis to make sure that nothing has been tampered with. And then leave OUR heritage there to literally rot! (My Opinion) The Cost of the new building is not that much considering it houses the infamous paintings and murals. I have also been told that a business man from Canada wants to buy the Murals and paintings, AND then remove them from the walls of the old officer's building and TAKE THEM to CANADA! THIS IS NOT RIGHT! (Again, My opinion) My Question what can we do, as Union County KY Researcher's do to help?? Donations? Join the Union County Historical Society? Are there any laws to stop the selling of these painting to someone that is going to move them out of the County? Any and all advice is appreciated! Melissa
