    3. Mary: Here is some info for you. > >1. What is the date and place of the Henderson County Historical >Society June meeting? The meeting, I believe, will be June 3 at 7 p.m. The usual meeting place is the Henderson County Public Library. > >2. Whom should I contact at the court house to look up records and what records am I likely to find there other than deeds? The most useful records at the Henderson County Clerk's Office include marriage records, filings for ministers and registered nurses, mortgages, conservatorships and wills. If there is a will filed there, be sure to look up the inventory, which will give a detailed listing of the person's assets at the time of death. You might also want to walk down the hall to the Circuit Court Clerk's Office. Lawsuits are gold mines of information, and they have all of them going back 200 years. The civil suits are all well-indexed; criminal cases are much harder to find. > >3. Someone told me that the Owensboro library has more genealogical >resources than the Henderson library. Is that correct and would they >have materials related to Henderson County? The Henderson Library has a very good collection of genealogical materials; it's in a special room upstairs. The historical society also has a very good collection of genealogical research materials. > >4. Do you have any suggestions for me as I prepare for this visit? Prepare to spend some time. There is a wealth of information; all you have to do is find it. > >I am interested in researching the Elam and Kitchens families. These are two old and well-known families in the county. There should be lots for you to look at. > Hope that's helpful, Frank Boyett
