On Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, my husband and I traveled to Henderson Co., KY from Woodford Co., KY (about 3 1/2 hours away) to meet a new found cousin in my GUDGEL(L) family. This line of GUDGEL(L)'s began with Joel GUDGELL, who came to Henderson from Anderson Co., KY. I was able to acquire copies of a number of old family pictures and wonder if anyone can tell me more about these people all of whom were in the area of Henderson area or close by. 1. 2 pictures of old blacksmith shops. Claud D. GUDGELL was listed as a blacksmith on his death certificate in 1927. I believe his father, Daniel GUDGEL, was also a blacksmith. One picture is printed on a postcard and the postmark on the back is May 18, 1909 Mt. Vernon, IN. It was addresses to Mr. O.D. GUDGELL, 102 Elm Street, Henderson Co., KY. He was addressed as "Pa Pa" and it was signed by James GUDGELL. Both photos show men that I can not identify. 2. Various photos of James Davidson GUDGELL and his wife, Annie BARRON. Two photos of James show him in a WWI Army uniform. Others are pictures of James on the farm (I believe it was on Posey Chapel Road in Henderson Co.), Two are dated October, 1928. James was the son of Orville D. GUDGELL and Zora LITTLEPAGE. Annie was the dau. of Samuel S. BARRON and Helen GUDGELL. James farmed and used to sell all kinds of produce, vegetables and eggs to local stores in Henderson. Have heard the term "Three Mile House" used in reference to somewhere they lived. 3. Helen GUDGELL BARRON and two children. House on Washington St., Henderson Co., KY. She and her husband, Sam BARRON, owned a liquor store on Washington St. in Henderson at some point and they lived in that same building (possibly behind or upstairs). 4. William "Buck" GUDGELL and brother, Frank GUDGELL. Dated November 11, 1928. (Brothers of Helen GUDGELL BARRON). 5. Two photos of Dan E. GUDGELL. One dated June 20, 1940. 6. 3 ladies: Lula BARRON HINTON, Helen GUDGELL BARRON and Annie BARRON GUDGELL. No date. These were sisters-in-law. 7. Annie Elizabeth BARRON GUDGELL as a young girl. 8. Orville GUDGELL (2 photos). (Father of James Davidson GUDGELL). 9. Ruth LOVE, dau. of Kate GUDGELL and James LOVE. They went to California. 10. Photo of 3 young men: Possibly BARRON brothers. Tommy, Francis "Pud", and William BARRON. 11. Lou GUDGELL-unknown to me. 12. Dan GUDGELL 13. Dr. James E. GUDGEL, Cynthiana, Indiana. 14. Obituary: William Edward GUDGELL, age 28, died April 12, 1966. Son of James Davidson GUDGELL and Annie BARRON. Bur. Fernwood Cem. 15. Obituary of Sam BARRON, age 75. No date of death given. Husband of Helen GUDGELL BARRON. 16. Obituary of James Davidson GUDGELL, age 60. Husband of Annie BARRON GUDGELL. 17. And 5 old tintypes that are unidentified.
