The following facts pertain to some early settlers of Logan Co, IL, females originally of Henderson Co., KY Joseph Orendorff (b. ca 1803-d.ca 1850) was married to Elizabeth Stephens in Sangamon Co., IL in 1833. The Orendorffs are found later in Logan Co., IL where they reared several sons, two of them twins. Several children died as infants according to Niblick Cemetery inscriptions. These four surviving sons of the Orendorffs were: James (c. 1834-1902) Robert (c. 1834-1879) attorney of Kansas City, MO Christopher (c. 1836-1862) Alfred (c. 1845-1909) attorney of Springfield, IL, where he died. His bio appears in several Sangamon Co. histories. Elizabeth Orendorff had several sisters, all born, as far as can be determined, in Henderson Co., KY. One sister Mary also migrated to Illinois. One niece, Margaret Ann Williams, also migrated to Illinois, specifically Logan Co., but details are unknown. The other Stephens sister in Logan Co., IL was Mary M. (Stephens) McGraw, b. ca. 1801. She was wife of William McGraw, but later ca 1851, she married Zadoc Mundy, both husbands of Logan Co., IL. In 1850 census, Logan Co., IL, Mary McGraw was head of household. These were the children who appear in that census. Mary may not be the mother of all of them. James, age 24 Eliza, age 15 Lucy, age 7 Walling [Walden?], age 4 About 1851, the marriage to Zadoc Mundy occurred. It is believed he was a widower. A niece Margaret Ann Williams, probably of Hickman or Ballard Co., KY, must have migrated to Illinois about 1842 or later. Margaret was the first wife of Christopher Ewing of Logan Co., IL, as indicated in a history of Logan Co. She died ca 1849 after giving birth to these twins. Her older children died as young persons. Zachary T. Ewing b. 1849 Mary Catherine Ewing, b. 1849 married Samuel E. Fergus, according to county history of Logan Co., IL It is believed Margaret Ann Williams was the daughter of Samuel S. Williams, deceased ca 1838, of Hickman Co., KY and his wife Catherine Stephens, who would have been the sister of Elizabeth Orendorff and of Mary M. McGraw, later Mundy. Does anyone have knowledge of Catherine Stephens Williams? . According to an old letter in the extended Williams family [of another state], Catherine was still living near Columbus, KY in 1845. Her son or stepson, Jesse H. Williams lived in Ballard Co., KY, formed from Hickman Co., until after the 1870 census. The parents of Elizabeth Orendorff and Mary M. McGraw, later Mundy, according to documents in Henderson Co., KY were David Stephens, a veteran of the War of 1812, and his wife Elizabeth (--). Elizabeth Stephens, widowed about 1813, subsequently married a neighbor, Samuel Farrar Williams (1759 NC-d. ca 1840?), a widower with grown children. Court records of Henderson Co. indicate Samuel F. Williams became guardian of the Stephens children. There are several deeds in Henderson Co., KY which pertain to the Logan Co., IL relatives of David Stephens, deceased about 1813, before the marriage of his widow Elizabeth to Samuel F. Williams If anyone has information about these persons, I have information to share. Will exchange information also. E.W.Wallace probable descendant of Samuel S. Williams (d. ca 1838) & his wife Catherine Stephens of Henderson Co., KY and later of Hickman Co., KY
