Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.henderson/2644.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I happened upon your question about E.W. Winstead while looking for research myself. I currently own the home in Henderson, Ky. that E.W.Winstead was raised in. His name is Elijah Worsham Winstead and he is the son of Aaron Shelby Winstead. A.S. Winstead opened his own distillery after having partnered with a couple other people. One being Bona Hill and the other being Elijah Worsham (not his son but his brother-in-law). A.S. Winstead operated his own distlillery until handing it down to his son E.W.Winstead a couple years prior to his death. He died in the year of 1912 I believe. His son then operated the business for many more years but I am unsure for exactly how long. I have not been able to get my hands on that information yet. Most of my research has come from the Henderson Public Library. I too found information from the book "Anuals and Scandles" as well as old newspaper articles. I am a little curious as to how you learned of E.W.Winstead. It is rare to find someone! interested in the same distillery as I am. As I said my connection to this family is the house I now own. I am collecting artifacts to place back in my home from this family's business. I hope you find this information useful.

    1. [KYHENDER] obit
    2. Hi-- I am at a dead end trying to locate a death date on a Melissa Gibson-- wife of Beury Washington Eakins. I have dates of 1860-1936 for Melissa. Beury died in Pike CO., IN, at his son Harvey "Pete" Eakins's house and is buried in Springdale Cem in Webster. Death dates on BW are Apr 24, 1948. I contacted the Pike CO health dept thinking that Melissa and BW might have been living with their son when she died, but they have no record of a Melissa Eakins from 1935-1937. And I cannot find her death in the KY death records-- although it could be listed under a different spelling. There was an obit for BW, and I was wondering if there is an obit for Melissa somewhere. I think the two of them are buried in the same place. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks so much. 2. Amy Dunn
    3. There was someone on this board about 1 1/2 months ago who wanted me to email him or her about information on the Sandefur and Eakins families who are kin to me. Both relationships are by marriage from children of James Brown Majors (abt. 1834 - bet. 1884-1900) and Catherine Glen (abt. 1845 - abt . 1878). Eliza Majors second marriage was to William Eakins and James Phillip Majors married a Frances A. Sandefur. The James Brown Majors family was from Henderson, KY. James and Catherine Majors had at least eight known children. If anyone is interested the six other children are Serilda Ann who married a William Phillips, Sarah M. who married a Thomas Gibson, Mary Katherine who married a David T. Floyd, Charles M. who remained single, George A. who married a Ettis Berry Rideout, John B. who married a Phoeba Parks. I have birth year or date, death information for Mary Katherine (Majors) Floyd, Charles M. Majors, and George A. Majors. At that time my hard drive was dying and everything was backup up to CD or other format except a few last minute e-mail messages was missed, that e-mail was lost,. NowI have a new hard drive, my computer is working correctly, and I have the information. I just did not want the person to think that I forgot about the message.I thought posting information on the board might help reconnect. If anyony else is interested in what I have on the Majors line on about the who they married. I would be glad to share what I have. Most of the work I have documented because I basically had to start researching this family using documentation. Thank You, Amy Dunn
