Snelling and Shelling, Theda and Thelma. Maybe if this should turn out to be a right person, Verna's first husband might have been a Waide. Just something for you to think about. Dear List Members: My name is Julian H. Preisler and I reside in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia near Washington, DC. I am searching for a person who can take a color photograph of the exterior of the former Temple Adas Israel in Henderson located at 635 Center Street. I am researching American Synagogue Architecture and am in the process of creating an e-Book on the subject. Photo credit will be given to the photographer both in the research project and upon publication. If anyone can do this for me or knows of someone who is willing to assist, please do get in touch with me. Photographs can be digital (preferred), but I can also accept regular print photographs and can scan them into the database. I have photographs of many of the Jewish temples and synagogues in Kentucky and would also like to include the former temple building from Henderson. I thank you in advance for your help and look forward to hearing from any of you. Sincerely, Mr. Julian H. Sounds like there might have been two - I know that my gr-gr grandfather's farm was off the Madisonville Rd and he had purchased this from Wm Marshall. [I remember as a child visiting my grandfather there and finding a burial ground at the edge of his farm and that some members of my family were buried there.] I believe that Wm Marshall - or his brother Bennett would have been the slave owner - just haven't been able to find documentation so far to prove this. I do know and have documentation that one of my great uncles was a slave of Bennett's. My grandfather might have been the last to be buried there - in 1962 (?) An uncle, Charles Posey, was probably the one buried in the '40's. I was told that they would try to find information on them that they could be private cemeteries. I've seen Marshall Burying Ground, Marshall graveyard and Marshall Cemetery listed. I wondered if they are all the same cemetery or two different ones. There is a Marshall Burying Ground on Madisonville Road. The two listed as (but could be the same) Marshall Graveyard and Marshall Cemetery where used up to 1948. I think that the Marshall Burying Ground is old, probably on the old Marshall farm, it list 3 headstones Col Wm. Marshall 1757-1810 his wife and a child. The listing I've seen for the other two names have all been African America/Black. Which means that it could be a old cemetery pre 1865 or one started in 1865. There is listed in 1911-1992 Death Records for Henderson County by James Blue and Donald Hazelwood a listing for a Carrie Marshall born 1879 died feb 14, 1948 cem listed is Marshall Cem.
