Fellow genealogists and anyone concerned with preserving our sacred cemeteries, The History Channel and Time Warner are sponsoring a 'Save Our History' grant award for which anyone can go online and cast their vote. Voting ends THIS FRIDAY April 27th, so time is short. We were fortunate that our restoration project was chosen as a finalist. The JCOGS is the only genealogy society or cemetery project to be chosen as one of the five finalists, so I truly hope that you will go to the Time Warner website and cast your vote for the James Cemetery project. If awarded this grant, we will use 100% of the grant to begin installing an antique-style aluminum alloy fence around the perimeter in order to help halt further desecration of this sacred and historic burial ground. You can read more about our James Cemetery project at the Time Warner 'Save Our History' voting website. Please unite with us as a group of genealogists concerned about the ever-increasing destruction of our cemeteries by VOTING for us at the website below. And note also that ANYONE with Internet access can VOTE so please forward this email to your genealogy circle of friends and ask THEM to vote too! The Nancy Hart Day, from what I recall, is in Elbert Co., GA. I went to a cermony there when they intiated and celebrated her 150 years. The Book-Hart Cemetery is in Henderson Co., KY. I am related to her, and have been to this cemetery. However I do not live in KY. I went there to help with the clean up of that cemetery a few years ago. I know there are folks on this list who can give you directions to the cemetery. It is on privately own property and one needs to get permission from the property owner. I do have photo's of Nancy's grave along with her son John Hart, if interested. Heather W. Also, check the slave censuses (US census). At times I have not been able to find a person in a regular census after 1840, but then, convinced the person was a county resident, I have checked the slave censuses and verified that he was indeed a resident--and a slave-owner. Also, Kentucky has birth records for a short time beginning ca. 1852, but the Civil War caused a blip in this valuable, to genealogists, lists of birth and deaths. I have found a few Kentucky ancestors on the death records ca 1852 and later. Some of the early tax lists for Henderson Co. are on the internet.) It seems that witches burning may ended in New Endland, but Indians also burned people at the stake. I am going to give you a link to JOHN ENEAS McCallister. It has information on JOHN ENEAS McCallister and his ancesters. One of his Kinkead ancestors were burned at the stake by Indians. For the link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/henderson/mccallister.je.txt I am not very familar with Indian burnings and or attacks in Henderson County, Kentucky. This could help explain what happen to the person. I am not related nor do I know anything else about this family. I thought anything might help.
