I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall someone's email about the Potts surname. I just discovered my g-g grandmother's maiden name was Harriet Potts (b 1870). She was married to William H. Wright. I am looking for information on her ancestors. Thanks, Rose
I apologize if you have recieved this message twice. I am looking for information about orphanages in the Western KY areas. Union, Henderson or Webster counties. Can anyone tell me anything? Thank You Kristy
Barb, In my description of the evolution of the Old Henderson Co. I neglected to mention on change to Hopkins Co. that could be relevant to your question. Hopkins Co., when formed, had part of its southern boundary following Drakes Creek to the Green River. On 1 Mar 1820 this was "adjusted" to the present boundary, moving the boundary south and this "triangle" of land from Christian became part of Hopkins. Barb, This is a case where a picture is worth, maybe 10,000 words, but I'll try. I am trying to produce an accurate map that answers the question you posed to place on the web pages of the Old Henderson counties. Henderson was formed from Christian 15 May 1899 and extended from about the current Hopkins/Christian Co. line and followed the Tradewater River on the West and the Green and Pond Rivers on the East (with a few exceptions). Hopkins Co. formed from Henderson in 30 April 1807 had the old southern Henderson boundary with Christian and a new boundary with Henderson that extended due North from the Tradewater River at a point just west of Providence KY, intersected and followed Crabochard Creek in a northerly direction, then went due east a few miles south Dixon KY where the line intersected a branch of Deer Creek and followed Deer Creek to the Green River. In 1811 Union Co. was formed from the western part of Henderson. The boundary between them followed the present day boundary to thr present day common corner of Webster, Union and Henderson, there a line went in a south easterly direction to intersect the east-west line forming the northern boundary with Hopkins and Henderson. Webster was formed in 1860 taking parts on Henderson, Union and Hopkins. You can see its boundary on current maps. There were a number of small adjustments that I have not included. Hope that helps.
