Darwin's death certificate lists his birthplace as Hudsonvill <sic>, KY. I'm wondering if that should have been Hudson Hill, KY. Darwin moved to Missouri, married, and died there. 2. S. B. Helm
    3. This was a single letter; to save on paper and postage, each parent wrote as if a separate letter. John's father has terrible handwriting that I still haven't been able to decipher. On many words, I have given up. Sue Helm To: John James Towles Alexandria, D. C. Henderson June 16th 1840 My dear John, I could not have believed that you would have _________two months & a half to lapse without writing to me or even sending me your good wishes. I hope that I am justified in believing that you are both well and perfectly satisfied with your situation for I feel assured you would have written more frequently had this not been the case. You promised you would write often, I hope you will think _______not once in two months is hardly often enough. I have written one letter to you both one to Walter and this is the third. I hope Walter if he has not done so will immediately answer any letter to him and that you will reply to this. We are all well. I have just returned from Louisville to attend the episcopal convention where I met with the reverend Mr. Jackson of Virginia who told me he was to preach in your chapel in about 3 weeks and that he would see you both. the Bishop received (?) to be remembered to you & Walter & that I should say to you both that Benjamin his son was going to school in Danville and that you must ___ which could___ ___ often in _______ & goodness.Tell Wat that his bear has been missing for two or three weeks and that I am afraid _________ killed him. I have not heard from your cousin Philip since you went on. I hope he has been to see you before this and that he will have cause to _________ with your and Wats good conduct. Mr. Wadsom wrote to me you had found a cousin at the School , let me know who it is, how many school Fellows you have , how you like them, what you are learning and all about the school. Please present my respects to Mr. Smith. he wrote to me that he would supply you with clothing and what you wanted, and I will always endeavour to keep money in his hands for that purpose. give my best love to Wat and that you may be both good boys and safely restored to your homes is the almost nightly prayer of your affectionate Father, Th Towles My dear John, I received your letter 3 weeks ago & would have answered it before this but Miss Tudor wish'd to write to you both and I thought you would like better to hear often than we should all write togeather. I am very delighted to hear you and Watt are both will pleased with your school, your china Aster seed came safe & I sowed them as you directed, they are growing finely. I was very much obliged to you for them and shall take great care of them. I went to the schoolhouse & got all the writing I could find of yours and Walters and put them in the bookcase in the room, Miss Tudor keeps school in the house when the weather permits, the children rather gots the school house as it gives them more room to play, and be unconfined, the little Elms Mr. Washams planted are alive, and we had potatoes on the 7th out of his patch the first week or two, I never sat down to the table but I thought how Watt would be delighted to have the bowl of Milk, and plate of honey by him that was by me and often did I wish that he had it. I wish that it was near enough to you that we might send many things that we have more of than we want we have plenty of Raspberrys very few cherrys and I had to gather them before they ripened to get them from the birds I suppose you are feasting on them if you can send some of the seed as they are so much finer there that hear we could try how they would do. Anne Sublette came to school & stayed a fortnight and went back home and sent word she was not coming anymore. Miss Tudor, Betty Virginia & myself went down to your Uncle Haywood on Saturday we found Miss Besty Green there staying with your Aunt untill your Uncle H acme ba[ck] from New Orleans. I suppose you saw in the papers an account of the dreadfull storm at Natches the steamboat Vicksbourg was two hours & a half behind the storm it had forty five Hogsheads of your Pas tobacco on board and would have been destroyed. It had stopt that leangth of time to do some repairs to it and the Captain was vey sorry to loose so much time but when he saw what a storm he had escaped he felt as if it was a providential escape. Miss Tudor sends her love to you both all your relations & friends are always after you both, give my love to Walter and I hope you both will write oftener every fortnight would be as good _____ as you could make & where one cant write the other can take it by twins give my love to Walter and Betty send love believe me to be your affectionate mother Elzbth Towles

    2. Could I ask the biggest favor of you? I bought the cemetary book to find my great-great grandpa, Jake Certain. His plot number was listed, but not his gravestone. If you find the cemetary, and can locate his number, could you tell me what the stone says, I know nothing of him, except his name. I hate to intrude on your trip, but I live in FL, and would have a hard time traveling to KY with two whining kids and a husband who just wants to fish, not look at graveyards. LOL. If this is too much trouble, I totally understand. But if it's not, then this is what I know. Jake Certain 1 grave, east end #56 Also, Ida Certain, if she's around there around him. There is a Nannie Certain, but I have her info. I sure would appreciate this Thanks in advance, Kristy

The way I knew they were supposed to in there was that I had gone over a census tape of that year. I told him about the mistake & he gave me a refund. Another person to contact in Union Co. Ky is Ruth Heffington, 130 E. Geiger, Morganfield, KY 42437. Ruth is a good researcher but she has had serious family problems so she may not get to you right away. We will be in the area this coming weekend and I would like to check for graves of my family. Do they have a caretaker on duty or an office where you can check for grave locations?

    1. Fw: [USGENWEB-ALL-L] NOMINATION
    2. Betty Sellers
    3. -----Original Message----- From: Betty Sellers <kyseeker@comsource.net> To: USGENWEB-ALL-L@rootsweb.com <USGENWEB-ALL-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, June 14, 1998 10:27 PM Subject: [USGENWEB-ALL-L] NOMINATION Jun 15, 1998 ******************NOMINATION***************** I would like to nominate the best possible candidate to the office of USGenWeb National Coordinator. When I first began with KyGenWeb, and later as the original INGenWeb Coordinator, I had the pleasure to work with Nancy Trice to help make KYGenWeb work and later we worked together to help make USGenWeb a successful entry point for all counties in the USA. Nancy is very concerned about the future of the USGenWeb Project and feels strongly that the whole project depends on the county coordinators who volunteer their time and effort to this project because they want to help other people find their "roots." Nancy believes, as I do, that the USGenWeb Project should be a bottom organization with the county level doing the great job they perform, the way they know best, with very little control from the national level. As the former Indiana State Coordinator working beside Nancy for 2 years and now as a County Coordinator in two KYGenWeb Project counties working under her leadership, guidance and support - I, Betty Sellers, hereby place in nomination the next USGenWeb National Coordinator---- *************** NANCY TRICE ************** the USGenWeb KyGenWeb State Coordinator and one of the Gen-Connect System administrators. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am also submitting Nancy's email address of: trice@vci.net Betty - Trigg Co KyGenWeb - http://www.comsource.net/~kyseeker/kylines/kytg.html Christian Co KyGenWeb - http://www.rootsweb.com/~kychrist/christian4.htm WKy Families Database - http://www.dynasty.net/biz/kyseeker/public_html/wky/surnames.html

    2. Maria, Good to read your message which jogs me to write about my Trautman --Anna Maria, b 30 March, 1727 in Lambsborn. She married Johann Jost Leibenguth, b. 11 Feb. 1722 Wellesweiler, on 26 Sept. 1747. They lived in Wellesweiler where he died 1 March 1779 and she 24 May 1765. The records from Germany show the Trautmann name was originally Ditmann, then Traumann, then Trautmann. Thought you might be interested. They had 8 children, the youngest Johann Christian Leibenguth, was my direct ancestor. I have birth, death dates for all of them if you are interested. They also were ancestors of Ruth Bosecker, whose death May 31 really shook me up. My younger cousins that I met last summer in Ky. are dying at an alarming rate. I've resolved to get my genealogy stuff organized on disk and hard copy even though it isn't complete. I'm watching for her obituary on-line in Union Co. and praying for her 84-year-old sister who lived with her. I visited that Ark Royale Cemetery last summer -- but it was 98 in that shade that day and no trees near our graves. Also the stones from 1850-1900 weren't always legible. Found all but one Voss stone, but though I had several lot nos. couldn't locate the Leibenguth graves---. Happy rooting -- and again, the Ky. volunteers do a great job on the web and otherwise. Mary Wallace.

    3. As with all books, remember, these are subject to human error. Names can be left out, dates can be read wrong, names can be misspelled, not on purpose, but these mistakes can happen no matter how careful we try to be. The reason I say this, is while I don't know him personally, I do know he is well spoken of, but he is subject to human error too, he missed my ancestors tombstone in one of the cemeteries, at the time it really confused me, until I got back home ( I was living in Texas then) and was able to go to the cemetery and found the tombstone that was not listed. But he does have many books and is a good "authority" to consult. We did consult him when we were trying to find cemetery records for an old cemetery, only to learn that the person who had previously kept all of the old records, had their house to burn down, taking the only records of the cemetery with it.. 2. This is so true, especially with cemetaries, because alot of them could be very hard to read, which leads the author to guess the spelling by reading other markers around that one. But as you said, everyone is subject to human error. These are still great books, but should checked out with several other avenues. Also, bear in mind, that I, too (although rarely)LOL am subject to human error. If I give you information that doesn't quite match up with what you already know, ask me to recheck, because it is very likely that I could have typed something in wrong or read someone else's dates. We're only human! Kristy
