I worked with Lance Duncan in northern Kentucky (just south of Cincinnati) a few years ago. His family was from Henderson, KY. I remember because my family on my father's side was from Daviess and Henderson counties and we talked a little about that. Don't know any details about Lance's family, of course. He lived just outside Florence, KY ( I think he served on their city council for some years. Just thought I'd add what I've heard about Duncans in Henderson county. Good Luck, Denyce

And If there is a transcription of possible cemeteries available. Thaks for any help, Kathy in MI
Hello, There is a site I saw earlier this summer with an obit of Ophelia Eakins, wife of John J. Eakins. They both died in Texas. John J. was the son of John Eakins and Sally King, I think. They also had a Joseph William. Could someone send me that site? I do promise to bookmark it this time. Helen
My apologies if I haven't answered your email or have a project started not completed. My new email address is kyseeker@dynasty.net and your mail may not have gone thru... On Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, my husband and I traveled to Henderson Co., KY from Woodford Co., KY (about 3 1/2 hours away) to meet a new found cousin in my GUDGEL(L) family. This line of GUDGEL(L)'s began with Joel GUDGELL, who came to Henderson from Anderson Co., KY. I was able to acquire copies of a number of old family pictures and wonder if anyone can tell me more about these people all of whom were in the area of Henderson area or close by. 1. 2 pictures of old blacksmith shops. Claud D. GUDGELL was listed as a blacksmith on his death certificate in 1927. I believe his father, Daniel GUDGEL, was also a blacksmith. One picture is printed on a postcard and the postmark on the back is May 18, 1909 Mt. Vernon, IN. It was addresses to Mr. O.D. GUDGELL, 102 Elm Street, Henderson Co., KY. He was addressed as "Pa Pa" and it was signed by James GUDGELL. Both photos show men that I can not identify. 2. Various photos of James Davidson GUDGELL and his wife, Annie BARRON. Two photos of James show him in a WWI Army uniform. Others are pictures of James on the farm (I believe it was on Posey Chapel Road in Henderson Co.), Two are dated October, 1928. James was the son of Orville D. GUDGELL and Zora LITTLEPAGE. Annie was the dau. of Samuel S. BARRON and Helen GUDGELL. James farmed and used to sell all kinds of produce, vegetables and eggs to local stores in Henderson. Have heard the term "Three Mile House" used in reference to somewhere they lived. 3. Helen GUDGELL BARRON and two children. House on Washington St., Henderson Co., KY. She and her husband, Sam BARRON, owned a liquor store on Washington St. in Henderson at some point and they lived in that same building (possibly behind or upstairs). 4. William "Buck" GUDGELL and brother, Frank GUDGELL. Dated November 11, 1928. (Brothers of Helen GUDGELL BARRON). 5. Two photos of Dan E. GUDGELL. One dated June 20, 1940. 6. 3 ladies: Lula BARRON HINTON, Helen GUDGELL BARRON and Annie BARRON GUDGELL. No date. These were sisters-in-law. 7. Annie Elizabeth BARRON GUDGELL as a young girl. 8. Orville GUDGELL (2 photos). (Father of James Davidson GUDGELL). 9. Ruth LOVE, dau. of Kate GUDGELL and James LOVE. They went to California. 10. Photo of 3 young men: Possibly BARRON brothers. Tommy, Francis "Pud", and William BARRON. 11. Lou GUDGELL-unknown to me. 12. Dan GUDGELL 13. Dr. James E. GUDGEL, Cynthiana, Indiana. 14. Obituary: William Edward GUDGELL, age 28, died April 12, 1966. Son of James Davidson GUDGELL and Annie BARRON. Bur. Fernwood Cem. 15. Obituary of Sam BARRON, age 75. No date of death given. Husband of Helen GUDGELL BARRON. 16. Obituary of James Davidson GUDGELL, age 60. Husband of Annie BARRON GUDGELL. 17. And 5 old tintypes that are unidentified. Couldn't resist them-maybe later I will discover who they are. Thanks. Any help appreciated. Linda GUDGEL FINNELL

Sorry to bother the list members but e-mail from the Webster County query board to Lana Mobbs <JaneStarr@worldnet.att.net> is bouncing. Since Lana also has Henderson County ancestors, I thought she might be subbed to this list and could send me her new e-mail address. Thanks. Fellow researchers; The tax lsts exist for Union County in each year begininning in 1811 and going up to whenever. (probably they are closed after a certain year for privacy) There are occasional lost years (possibly becasue the tax book got dropped in a river). The KY tax rolls are almost complete for every county. There are a few books running around that give the taxes for some early years, but I don't think anybody has published very many of them. The best collection is at the KY state archives in Franfort, KY where all the county tax lists are organized in one big cabinet of microfilm. I had the opportunity to use them in 1973 in the old archives and more recently in 1997 in the very nice new archives. The LDS possibly has these microfilms and might loan them at their librarys around the country. The Henderson County 1799 list is fairly typical but differs mostly in that few men had yet perfected the titles to their land so only a few men in the HENDERSON COUNTY TAX ROLL 1799 list are actually listed as owning land but they are identified as to what creek or settlement they were living in. Many of them were in 1799 in the process of having claims surveyed. A good compliment to the early tax lists would be the corresponding land records about KY land warrants which would contain the patents issued to these settlers, see: The Kentucky Land Grants, Willard Rouse Jillson, The Standard Printing Company, Louisville, Ky. 1925. Matching the waterway descritption in the tax rolls to the waterway descritption in the patents will confirm for you that it is the same person. Later years tax records get more complete in identifying the land of the taxable men and identify in whose name the land was patented, and for whom it was surveyed and where it is (waterway) and its value. It also usually included the basic family head count of whites and blacks and number of horses and cows and such and there are always a few nice tangibles like gold watches, cart wheels and other items that the county ordered taxed in that year. The tax records are in alphabetical order an advantage over the census. Interesting things to look for in the tax records are to watch for whom the land was surveyed and patented. In that way I was able to Identify Sarah Ashby as the first wife of my Robert Hooker in Hopkins County tax rolls. Also when a son came of age at 21 he would first appear in the tax records and most of the time father and son appeared in the county seat on the same day to pay up so they are listed next to each other (that helps point to an unknown father). In addition the widow was often listed as the taxable head of family after the death of the husband and in this way you can get the given name of some early wives before the 1850 census and also figure out when they die because they are then dropped from the tax roll. These are just a few suggestions on what you can get from the tax rolls and if you have not yet checked them then you have not taken advantage of a very good and useful source for family data. I'm sure you are all familiar with my sister in law Jane Sellers McBroom who has been a big part in transcribing the Henderson County Death Records and the census records of Henderson County not only for the Henderson KyGenWeb but for the Henderson County Historical Society. I'm sure she has helped a lot of you with your Kentucky Genealogy. Jane was visiting us last weekend and was taken by ambulance to Evansville to Deaconess with a fractured 12 vetebrae of her back. She was preparing to dress and had reached for her suitcase. The hospital sent her home and Monday we took her back by ambulance with pneumonia. She will be there about another five days. If you would like to send Jane a card... Jane McBroom Deaconess Hospitall 600 Mary Street Room 3647 Evansville, Indiana 47712 Please remember her in your prayers. Betty ==============
Steve, There are also several Siglers in Union County listed in the 1850 census. Jacob, 52, David 25, Phillip 27, Alfred 29, George 30, another Jacob 38. Maybe they will tie in somewhere. If you need the complete list, with wives and children, let me know and I will copy it for you. Becky
Steve, I looked at the death records of Henderson, Ky. and didn't find your Isaac Sigler, but there are 36 Sigler's listed, you may want to check them out. The death records are on the Henderson web page. I was born and raise in Henderson and have a lot of books from there, but 1850 in my earliest census records. There was a Alfred Sigler who married Priscilla Johnson, aug 12 1852 in Henderson and also a Jesse Sigler who married Huldah Sheffer Sep 4 1849. A little late for your guy, but maybe they will fit in later. Nancy ---------- From: SRieke218@aol.com To: KYHENDER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Sigler, Isaac Date: Friday, November 06, 1998 11:15 PM Brenda, Thanks for responding to our messaging about my Sigler line. I think I need to find out where Isaac Sigler was in KY about 1800 or a little after. I looked at the 1799 taxlist for Henderson Co.,KY and did not find him. I expect to find him in Henderson Co at some point. He and his wife Jane had five children(?): Emanuel (my GGG Grandfather born 1812 in Henderson Co. I thought), John, Mary Margaret, Elizabeth and Sally. I think that Isaac's children, some of them, moved to Hamilton Co.,IL about 1850. If anyone can help me with any census report of Henderson Co.,KY before 1850 down to 1800 I would be very, very grateful. Thanks to all. Steve Rieke SRieke218@aol.com
