The following obit appeared in the Evansville Courier, Tuesday, May 4, regarding the death of my Aunt Bea. Beatrice Eakins was the first daughter born to Enoch Marian Eakins (s/o Enoch George Eakins and Harriet Minerva Ford of Henderson Co., KY) and Florence Handley (d/o George H. Handley and Beatrice Ezell of Mortons Gap, KY). Aunt Bea was one of 10 children, my mom (Katheryn Lee Eakins) being the 8th child born. Uncle Bert Sandefur (Aunt Bea's first husband) was from Blackford, Webster Co., KY. Aunt Bea never suffered any, did have a heart attack a week ago, was sent home with blood thinners, and had a brain hemmorrage yesterday morning. Her mind was a sharp as the day she was born. I talked to her about a month ago, digging some Handley information. She told me stories as if they happened yesterday. At times, Aunt Bea's house was like Grand Central Station. If you needed a bed for the night, her door was always open. Aunt Bea also delivered a few children in her day, helped raise some neices and nephews, and was sort of like the "proverbial mother hen" of everyone. She was a truly good person. Only one sister out of the brothers and sisters is left--my Aunt Florence Clay Eakins Barfield. Helen Keusch Beatrice (Eakins) Sandefur Crowley, 91, of Evansville, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at St. Marys Medical Center. She retired in 1989 after 22 years as a seamstress at Levinsons Mens Shop. She formerly worked at Servel Inc. for 25 years. She and her first husband, Bert Sandefur, worked together on the Dixie Line Railroad, which ran between Sturgis, Ky., and Evansville. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church, and attended Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving are a stepdaughter, Jean Adams of Goreville, Ill.; two stepsons, Norman Crowley of Panama City, Fla., and D. Wayne Crowley of Newburgh; a sister, Florence (Eakins) Barfield of Evansville; 15 grandchildren, Bert E. Sandefur Jr, Tammy Jo (Sandefur) Bernick, Sheri (Sandefur) Schneider, Debbie (Crowley) Richards, Gary Crowley, Vicky (Crowley) Bates, Kurt and Kyle Crowley, Ronnie, Bobby and Larry Adams, Connie (Adams) McNichols, and Dale Skip, Jamie and Chris Crowley; 19 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bert Emm Dewy Sandefur, in 1954, by her second husband, Clarence A. Crowley, in 1992, and by her son, Bert Enoch Sandefur Sr., in 1994. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, David Schultz officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Hi, I am trying to verify a story that my Aunt Bea (still living and sharp at 91) told about how Robards got its name--I am printing the story and am wondering who the Eakins lady is that J. D. Robards married. I don't have JD listed in my FTM files. Enjoy the story and help me out as to the Eakins lady. Thanks. Helen Keusch A page from Charles Eakins genealogy report: Aunt Bea (Eakins) Sandefur Crowley told the following on Feb 7, 1990: This Eakins family was centered around a little town called Robards. Here is how Robards, KY, got its name. there was a family there named Robards and he married some lady from the Eakins family. So J. D. Robards sold his horse in 1869 for $75.00--sought his fortune by building a new general store in Henderson County, KY. (that s the year Enoch Marion Eakins was born--1869) Where J. D. Robards hoped to profit was from the gathering of the boys on Sunday afternoon to race and bet their horses on the half-mile frontier race tracks and drink a little--as was the custom of the time. The store did so well it expanded and J. D. later built a tobacco factory which eventually exported its products toEurope. Robards Settlement (home of Pleasant Valley), 3 miles west of Robards, became known as Robard Station withouth the s through an error of the L & N Railroad sign painters. Natives of Robard insisted on calling it Robards. The US Postal Service, in the 1920s to avoid confusion, effected a name change to Robards. At one time the community, which now has a population of about 300, had a 22 ft. soft coal mine--Panama Coal Co.--which employed about 30 men. The people now are supported by general farming and retirement incomes. So thats how Robards got on the map.
I have been trying to find my Great Great Grandmother, Naomi Blue/Bellow/Blau Sheridan. She was born in Borderly Kentucky and died in Union County, Uniontwon, Kentucky in 1950. I do not have her birth date. Only the place. I need her parents/siblings. She was married to John Isaac Sheridan, the son of Isaac N Sheridan and Mary Rayle. Anything on my Blues and Sheridans would be appreciated. Dorothy

Pam, Thanks for looking for me. I sure appreciate the time you took to look for me. I have had lots of family around Henderson, but I cannot seem to find any of them, except for one lonely marriage They are like mysterious ghosts or something. I know my Walker Bennett McKinnis & Sutton families were there, but I have yet to find much about them. Thanks again. Paula Eubanks Paula -----Original Message----- From: Pamela K. Hi Ya'll I accidentally deleted the message about which Bowles family you are looking for. I have a "little" referance to the Bowles family connected to my Stinson family. Mamie Bowles born 29 Nov.1889 in Galesburg, Ill. married Samuel Everett Stinson 24 Sept.1 912 in Vanderbrugh Co., Indiana. He died in 1937 in Vanderburgh Co., Ind. but I have no further information on Mamie Bowles Stinson. Good luck in your research. The Bowles I found in the death records were buried in Fairmont or Fernwood cemetery and one in Warrick, I don't believe Warrick is a cem. maybe a county? These records are from 1911 to 1992, it wasn't a law to have a death record before then, but I thought it would be a place to start. Additional info on the Bowles family. Pleasant Carroll Bowles second wife was Mrs. Margaret Adalade Mckinnis, her maiden name was Bennett. She was buried in Henderson CO. KY. She died in 1888 of cancer. Can anyone tell me where she's buried?
I am looking for a census record for Pleasant Carroll Bowles and wife, Harriett and two children Zachariah and George. Also am looking for the Grave of Harriet (Bennett) Bowles. She died prior to 1880 and was buried somewhere in Henderson Co. KY. After Harriet died, Pleasant married her sister Margaret in Warren Co. KY in 1880. They had two children, Pleasant Jr. and Marion Bowles. I would appreciate any information that anyone could give me on this family. Sincerely, Paula Eubanks
I found in the Henderson Co. Death Records the following: Nora T. Jones, born 9-26-l882, died 7-9-l923; father - Cypren Trulles, mother Annie Sullivan, Informant: H.A. Jones Buried; Hopkins (I assume, but don't know, that this is Hopkins Co., KY; I don't know of a Hopkins Cemetery but someone else might). I know all of this information doesn't jive with yours; but I thought the father's name (Trulles) was so close to your information. Charlene
I am having some problems with my system and just wanted to check to make sure I am receiving O.K. Sorry for any inconvenience. Pam & Wayne Alves palves@henderson.net Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http:www.rootsweb.com/~tnraogk/index.htm

Hello, again, Mike..... Do you happen to know the countries of origin of the Chapmans? I know the Caseys are Irish, the Moormans English, the Venables English and French.......I believe Mary Candler and Zach. Moorman married in Ireland didn't they? Thanks again Sally
Sally, I don't have Farley, Bruce, John/Johns, Lipscomb or Elam in my lines (yet), but I do have a Walker -- connected to my Fleet line in King & Queen Co., Virginia but not connected to Moorman so far as I know. We obviously have multiple connections and interlinked lines, and I guess our friends on the Henderson list may be tired of us absorbing so much bandwidth. I hope that all this has been helpful to someone. It sure is exciting for me.
