    1. Henderson Adoption records 1888
    2. Does anyone know how to go about finding who has the adoption records for henderson county in about 1888. It was an adoption through the death of parents so shouldn't have been real secretive. The judge that granted the adoption was John F. Lockett and it would have to have been between 1887-1889. Misti

    3. Ed, I have collected a lot of information about this Clayton family as my line married into the Clayton line several time including Tapp and Hicks lines. My information is not documented as well as yours and sources are sometimes missing but I would be happy to send you what I have. It requires about 32 pages but I can easily attach it to an E-mail if your desire. Can you handle .rtf files? 3. Hi--yes they did move. Gibson County is in southern IN, right about Posey County and Vanderburgh County (Evansville). Princton is the county seat of Gibson and Mt. Vernon is the seat of Posey. That area is my old teenage stomping grounds. I lived 1/2 mile from where the Posey, Gibson, and Vanderburgh lines meet. Indiana became a state in 1816. Evansville and Mt. Vernon were there before 1816 and I don't know about Princeton. Hope this helps. And Willard Library in Evansville has extensive genealogy collections from the tri-state area. 3. Hi Rebecca and Henderson County cousins.... The "Register" citation must refer to the Register of the Kentucky Historical Society, which is one of the society's two publications. If you're close to a large library with a good genealogical collection they might have back issues of The Register, although 1927 is going back a long way. >From the citation it appears the petition is available at the KHS Library, which is at Frankfort in the new Kentucky History Center. I checked Starling's "History of Henderson County" and didn't find any mention of this petition. All Starling says is: "Prior to the formation of Henderson as the thirty-eighth county in 1798, there were but few settlers south of Green River. The first permanent settlement of which any knowledge is had was made above the Red Banks - now Henderson - on Richard Henderson & Co.'s land in the year 1791." It would be interesting to see the names on this petition. 3. Hi, Red Banks was the original name of Henderson KY. Ky became a state about 1792-94. I am not for sure on the dates. I do know KY and TN entered the US as states in the very early 1790's. When the 1811 earthquake occured, the Ohio River got moved around abit, and that has always been a problem between KY and IN on river boundaries. There was a trail from Henderson, to Evansville, on up to Princeton, IN known as the Red Banks Trail where many of the KY people went into IN. So chances are your relatives were married at Henderson.
