AMOS William H. (aka Tom) From his tombstone which gives the years, months and days I determine that he was: born 2feb1814 in Va. died 25sep1874 in Dade County Mo. In the 1850-1860 he gave the US Census enummerator his birth state as Virginia. He was in Hickman County Ky. for the 1840 enummeration. and in Missouri for 1860. He wed Elizabeth HANDLEY about 1831. Their son(my GG Grandfather) was a murderer. In March 1870 he murdered kin to his wife Rebecca FARMER and I believe the victim was his wife"s brother. The scoundrel was William Washburn AMOS and appeared in the 1870 US Census, Hart County as Wash AMOS. The Missouri census was enummerated in jun 1870 after Wm. W AMOS had fled so he appeared not. The 1870 Hart County was taken in the fall. While I have no proof Wm. H ever lived in Hart County, I DO BELIEVE the murderer fled to Hart County as he most likely had Aunts & Uncles living there, where he could find food & safety from the law. Unfortunately Hart County AMOS searchers have not been able to help with my limited info. Thanks all! Jim Adams Montanan2@att.net
