Ruth; I have a HUNTER family in SC-KY in multiple counties and "James" is common in most generations. I don't know without checking my files if this James is one of them or not, Mine are descended from William HUNTER that settled in Cumberland Co, KY (from Louisa Co, VA in the late 1700s. Other families associated with this Hunter line are TURNER, GRIDER, NEATHERY, BARRETT, OWENS and several others. My Mothers family were in Clinton Co, KY as were other HUNTER s of the same line. I will look through my records tomorrow to see if one of my James is also yours.
