> Interested in knowing information on town of Monroe in Hart Co. Does it still exist? I have been told that early 1800s the area was called "Youngstown" whereas my ancestors all lived. How would I find out history of this community? Anything would be helpful. Thanks The following is from "Kentucky Place Names" by Robert M. Rennick, The University Press of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky, 1984. Monroe (Hart), This hamlet with extinct post office is at the junction of KY 88 and 677, 10 miles east of Munfordville. The now extinct town of (Old) Monroe, about a mile north, was named for Thomas Monroe who, with William I. Adair, established it in 1819 as a contender for the county seat. Sometime before 1826 Joshua Brents acquired the land and built a tavern for travelers between Lexington and Nashville. On January 30, 1826, he established the Monroe Post Office, which in 1864 was moved to the Green River community he called Young Town, which became the New Monroe or simply Monroe when he established a post office there on Sept 16, 1878. It closed in 1919. Doyle Sanders, Indian Territory

Has anyone ever heard of an area located in vicinity around Monroe and Canmer called DePriest? I could have it pronounced incorrectly. Perhaps its Depreese? Supposedly it was a settlement in 1800's where my x2 great-grandmothers mother was buried? There was also a school where her brother taught in same area? How would I find info on this place? Thank You, Brian

Hello, I am a newbie, and I am researching the Buckner name and trying to find other descendants of my ggg grandfather Thomas Jefferson Buckner. I believe he was born in KY and his wife was either named Laura Williams or Lucinda Williamson, she was born in TN. I know they had at least two children, Jesse James Buckner (who was also known as J.J. Buckner and James J. Buckner) born January 24,1869 in Caldwell County KY. The other son was Albert Mitchell Buckner born January 18, 1873 also in Caldwell County. For a reason unknown to me, J.J. Buckner was raised in Caldwell County, while A.M. Buckner was raised in TX. J.J. Buckner married Laura Lewis and they had the following children: Minnie, Robert, Weldon, Fred, Jennie, Ruth, Nellie, Maynard, and Jesse Lewis. A.M. Buckner married Mattie Elizabeth Byas and they had the following children: Dellos Urban, Ruby Mae, Marvin Obbie, and Herman Albert. I would greatly appreciate any help with my line of Buckners. Thank you, Tammye Campbell-Hobgood

I am researching the Chaney surname in Hart Co. Riley Chaney, eldest son of Obediah Chaney, married Mary "Polly" Shipp on Feb. 2, 1823 in Green County. He appears on the 1830 Green Co. census. He received a Land Grant in 1833 for 18 acres "in the Little Barrens" in Hart Co. The 1850 Hart Co. census identifies thirteen children: (1) Easter/Easton, (2) James H., (3) William, (4) John M., (5) Obediah, (6) Elizabeth, (7) Louisa J., (8) Richard T., (9) Joseph, (10) Lucy, (11) Nancy E., (12) Mary L, and (13) Francis M. (male). Riley's wife, Mary, apparently died before 1860 as she does not appear in his household in the 1860 Hart Co. census. There are three children with the surname Chapman in his household. Can anyone help identify them? Riley appears on page 200 of the 1840 Hart Co. census. Can anyone provide the data from that census? John M. Chaney, son of Riley, married Elizabeth Brown on 4/27/1851 in Hart Co. and appears on page 754 of the 1860 Hart Co. census. Can anyone provide the data from that census? Eastern Chaney, son of Riley, appears on page 755 of the 1860 Hart Co. census. Can anyone provide the data from that census? Obediah Chaney, son of Riley, appears on page 882 of the 1860 Metcalfe Co. census. In the household are his wife, Susan, and children John and Catharine. Can anyone provide the maiden name of Susan? There is a street/road in the Hardyville Div. of Hart Co. named "Chaney Lane". Chaney Lane is also called SSR1358. There is a road in the Hammonville Div. of Hart Co. named "Homer Chaney Road". This road runs SE from SSR569 2.2 miles to the town of Glen Lily. Can anyone help with the history of these roads? Will share my data on this family with anyone interested. Thanks, Keith R. Ballew [email protected]

The recent posting by VA roots on religious petitions is great: <A HREF="http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/repehtml/">Early Virginia Religious Petitions</A> Click on Geographical regions or whatever, then click on Bedford, a list of 8 petitions will come up. Click on Oct 27, 1785. It will say 6 "images" some are blank, but one will have a list of signatures that include Robt. Fitzhugh, Peter Fitzhugh, the Dawsons, Thomas Wood, etc. A lot of our people on one page! Augie Royalty
Yesterday I posted some incorrect info. I was typing from memory and it does not work as good as before. I stated that Willis REYNOLDS was married to Maranda GOODMAN. That is incorrect. Augie caught it an ask me. Willis was married to Mariah MANION. I will post the correct info after checking, but I think that Maranda was married to Willis JOHNSON and was the mother of Irena Bell JOHNSON, wife of Willis Johnson REYNOLDS. I will post a confirmation or correction tomorrow. Sorry about the confusion. Edward
