Gr, Gr, Gr grandfather, Jonathan Wm. Burns residing in Harrison Co., KY in 1849, shot and killed my grandmother on 12 Sept 1849. They married 8 Jan 1824 in the county. The murder took place in Claysville. I have been able to secure a portion of the trial through the LDS and it is unbelievable for that period of time. Family stories indicate there was a large newspaper account of the trial and his later escape. For l0 years I have looked for this and keep coming up with nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This has fascinated me for years. The jury found him guilty and he was sentenced to be hung till "dead". On the way to the gallows, he hit the jailer in the head and escaped. Yes, never to be seen again. Sounds just like a movie doesn't it? Don't really know how you find him after he escaped. Have not been able to locate her grave in the county either. Her name was Nancy Alice Fulton Burns. sometimes spelled Byrnes but court records did show Burns. I will be happy to share any information with anyone working this line and would love to hear from anyone with cemetery ideas or newspaper ideas. Jan In TX
