Good Morning All, I am hoping that someone will be able to help me or at least give me some new possible insight on an old puzzle in our PAVEY/PAVY family. Samuel PAVEY, b: 1761, Accomac Co, VA (according to his Rev. War appl.), migrated to KY pre-1800 from the Sussex Co, DE/Caroline Co, MD area, probably with his first wife who we believe to be Nancy SMITH, dau. of Leven SMITH, Jr. (sister of Leven & Thomas SMITH) and brothers Isaac (md. to Frances ADAMS) and Jesse PAVEY (md: Sally N. STAFFORD, 1796 in Bourbon Co ... there was a Levan and Thomas SMITH on the 1800 Bourbon Co census.) We believe that Nancy died, and Samuel remarried Sara/Sary (pos. HUSK.) Harrison Co Record Book A, 1794 - 1806, Vol. XV, No. 802, Jan. 29, 1802, has a record stating that "Samuel Pavey says his wife, Sarah Pavey left him and he won't pay her bills." On pg. #12 ..."SUMMONS: Samuel PAVEY is summoned to court to show cause why Peter, Jesse, Sally and Polly, his children, should not be apprenticed out...Feb., 1802." Our questions: There seems to be at least 2 other sons, one b: 1791, the other in 1793 that were not on the list ..... WHY? Peter and Jesse may well have been the children of Nancy SMITH PAVEY, but both Sally and Polly's marriage licenses have Sarah (as mother) giving permission for them to marry. Was this apprenticeship summons just for the older children? Also, it doesn't state who filed for the Summons. Sarah? A Constable/Sheriff? Family member? Over the years we have had researchers in Harrison Co search for further records and nothing has ever been found. We do not know how these things were usually handled in case of a separation/divorce (no divorce records have ever been found), especially with children from a former marriage involved. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Marsha McWilliams
