To one and all, I apologize for using our genealogy forum to talk about "money matters" and ask your forgiveness in advance. It's just that I have to clarify some issues concerning the Perrin Book Project. The booker publisher, Southern Historical Press, is willing to reprint William Perrin's "The History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison and Nicholas Counties" (this is the book from which I have been sending historical information to the lists). The original attempt to have the book reprinted was through a local bookstore in Paris, Kentucky. Nice folks. The only problem was that by going through the book store the cost of the book would have run around $65.00. I talked with the book store owner and she agreed that this would be beyond most folk's pocketbooks, so she offered to drop out as the "middlewoman" in this deal. I agreed to contact Southern Historical Press and directly negotiate a deal. This has consequently reduced the price for the book to a managable level. The cost is $50.00 per book plus $5 shipping and handling. The total cost to you is $55.00. Here's what this means in practical terms. I have to send the entire amount "up front" to the publisher. I will purchase 150 books. I will make some profit on this but not a whole lot--enough to have several books (25 or 30) in stock for those who wish to purchase the book in the future. I may also take out a small loan to purchase another 50 books in order to have these books available for the future (its cost effective to buy in bulk). I will also be responsible for (1) keeping records of those purchasing the books, (2) boxing and shipping (including boxes, tape, postage, insurance, and the time and energy of doing all this!), and (3) maintaining storage for the few books remaining. Again, I apologize for using our forum to discuss money. I felt, however, that since so many of us are actively involved in this project, I owed you (and those just joining our group) a clear and concise explanation of where we stand at this moment. Please send a check or money order to me at the address listed below. Sorry, but I cannot accept credit cards (I am an individual and not a company). Thanks for your patience. For those interested in a complete description of this book project, please contact me privately. -- Bob Francis (1920A Butner St., Ft.
