    1. [KYHARRIS-L] Lafferty Guards
    2. Bob Francis
    3. Fellow researchers, Enjoy! Cynthiana Democrat, June 1896: Lafferty Guards Company K, 2d Regiment of Infantry, Kentucky State Guards, was organized May 19, 1894, with fifty-three members. W. S. Hardin was elected Captain, E. C. McDowell, 1st Lieutenant and W. J. Gossett, 2nd Lieutenant. H. W. Shawhan was appointed 1st Sergeant, John Ingles, P. Ward, C. Corrigan and C. Howard duty Sergeants; and D. Williams, B. Pennell, H. Ward, Jas. Rankin, W. Parrish, S. M. McDowell, C. Reed and H. Reynolds, Corporals; Chas. Lacy, drummer. Since the organization of the company the following promotions have been made: 1st Sergeant H. W. Shawhan appointed 2nd Lieutenant on staff of Maj. McMath; Corporal Jas. Rankin elected 2nd Lieutenant of the company; Corporal Denny Williams promoted to 1st Sergeant, and Corporal B. Pennell promoted to Sergeant. The following have been discharged: Sergeant P. Ward, Corporal H. Ward and privates E. Clark, T. Corrigan, Chas. Hickman, Wm. Hickman, Chas. Lyons, C. Mattox, R. Musser, D. Renaker, Joe Stevens, K. Thompson and Wright Williams, and the following have been enlisted: Leslie Lail, N. Lally, F. McClure, F. Nichols and H. Webster, all enlisted on June 19, 1895. The following on May 12, 1896: B. Atkinson, Chas. Allen, Trim Hedges, J. T. Musselman, J. Q. Jewett, E. J. Coffey, F. Pollmeyer, J. Gibbons, Geo. Heck, T. Smiser, Kerr Riggs, Richard Moore, Thos. Collier, Chas. Jones (bugler), W. McGee, B. H. Conner, M. McDowell, Charles Maffett and Jack Sharp. Total enlisted organization of the company twenty-four, total discharged thirteen, net gain of enlistment eleven, present strength of company (rank and file) sixty-one. For drill, discipline and general deportment, when on duty, Company K ranks A1. Company K has attended two annual encampments, at Peducah in July, 1894, and at Henderson in August, 1895, where they captured two-thirds of the orderlies and "got everything they went after." They have never made up their minds to try for the flag yet but if they should other companies must look to their laurels. Private Ashley Ward, of this company, at the encampment of Henderson receive a gold medal for being the best soldier in the regiment. The Company has no active service since its organization and the boys are very anxious to try real soldiering. Their Captain is proud of the Company and feels confident if they were called upon at any time, or for any purposes they would respond to a man, and that they would make such a record that Cynthiana would be proud of them. -- Bob Francis 1920A Butner St. Ft. 1. [KYHARRIS-L] Perrin books
    2. Bob Francis
    3. To one and all, I just returned from my latest research trip to Bourbon County, Kentucky. I stopped by the Cynthiana Museum, Cynthiana, Kentucky, and talked with Mr. Harold Slade, the museum proprietor. He still has 12 copies of the Perrin book. He is selling the book for $55.00 plus postage. His home phone number is: 606-234-5835. These are the last books remaining in the original order of 250 books. For those unfamiliar with the Perrin book, it is titled "The History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison, and Nicholas Counties, Kentucky" and was originally written in 1882. As the title suggests, it covers the history and genealogy of these counties from the earliest period to 1881. It has literally hundreds of family biographical sketches. This version of the book is reduced and the print is quite small; however, it has a wonderful allname index that provides name and page number for every name in the book. If interested in purchasing the book, you need to call Mr. Slade at the above number or send a check payable to "Harold Slade" for $55.00 at the following address: Harold Slade Route 1, Box 490 Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031 -- Bob Francis 1920A Butner St. Ft. Polly Henry 8 Jan 1805 the only pre-1800 marriage showing up here is for James Dunn and Keziah Harrison July 1796. Jo

    2. I have placed our Benijah DUNN and George Lewis WOLF(E) trees on the Grant Co. website. Some lived in Pendleton and Harrison Counties also. We have numerous lines in the Pendleton, Harrison, Grant Co. area since the early 1800s. I have been searching for 2 particular families in the 1870 census but had no luck with any index UNTIL last night. I found an index that alphabetizes surnames by county, apparently for the whole state. This index was the GenealogyLibrary linf from the FTM site. It is subscription but I got free time by updating my FTM program. I am about 99% certain that I found them. I will list them first and then some entries for surnames that I have seen on these lists (County - Location - Page) Dotson BAKER (sp BAKERN in index) Grant - Crittenden-512 Louis Wolf-Campbell-Carthage-168 I would be very grateful to SKS who would look these up for me. 2. Mark & Tammye Hobgood
    3. Hello, I am a newbie, and I am researching the Buckner name and trying to find other descendants of my ggg grandfather Thomas Jefferson Buckner. I believe he was born in KY and his wife was either named Laura Williams or Lucinda Williamson, she was born in TN. I know they had at least two children, Jesse James Buckner (who was also known as J.J. Buckner and James J. Buckner) born January 24,1869 in Caldwell County KY. The other son was Albert Mitchell Buckner born January 18, 1873 also in Caldwell County. For a reason unknown to me, J.J. Buckner was raised in Caldwell County, while A.M. Buckner was raised in TX. J.J. Buckner married Laura Lewis and they had the following children: Minnie, Robert, Weldon, Fred, Jennie, Ruth, Nellie, Maynard, and Jesse Lewis. A.M. Buckner married Mattie Elizabeth Byas and they had the following children: Dellos Urban, Ruby Mae, Marvin Obbie, and Herman Albert. I would greatly appreciate any help with my line of Buckners. Thank you, Tammye Campbell-Hobgood

    3. Several years ago I purchased at an auction a picture to acquire the frame. In it was a retouched enlarged photo of a man, woman and child probably of the 1920s time period judging by the 'flapper-type' clothing of the lady. On the back in pencil is written Virgil Lucus. Also written on the inside is the name "Sadie." I would be happy to give the picture to any descendant who can identify it. Kay Withers
