"Dock" BALL, abt 1834-1860, and Anne BAILEY, b. abt 1833. James F. "Dock" BALL was the son of Moses BALL, Jr., 1797-1885, and Eleanor RICHARDSON, b. abt. 1806. Anne BAILEY was the daughter of William R. BAILEY, abt. 1800-1871, and Mattie FORRESTER, b. abt. 1801. Emily C. POPE was the daughter of Solomon POPE, 1812-1883, and Susan Elizabeth BALL, 1815-1906. Susan Elizabeth BALL was the daughter of James Samuel BALL, 1791-1867, and Susannah POSEY, 1795-1859. James Samuel and Susannah (Posey) BALL are my 4th great grandparents. William Martin BALL and Emily SKIDMORE are an interesting story. First, their marriage appears to have been of the "shotgun" variety, as they were married 28 Dec 1873 in Harlan County, and Margaret Eliza BALL was born 18 Apr 1874. Second, the family story is that William Martin BALL allegedly killed a man in Harlan County and fled (to TX) leaving his wife and daughters. The second child may not have been born or may have been a newborn at the time of the alleged murder. I have no specific information about that. I have copies of some of the divorce information; however, the date of the divorce is not on the copies of what I have.
