My father-in-law was called Bill and he was the son of Isom and Armina "Minnie" Noe. We have found the following on Minnie. She was married 4 times, the 1st being on August 13, 1902 to William M. Smith. They were married at Minnie's father's (James Metcalf) house in Harlan Kentucky. Her 2nd husband was a Wil Madden (Maden??) and is the father of her oldest child, Ellen (who was born June 28, 1905, according to Minnie's Bible entry). Then she married Isom Noe in 1909 (according to the 1910 census they had only been married 1 year, and at that time Elijah was only 4 months old). Her 4th husband was William Thomas Liles. Isom and Minnie had the following children together: Elijah, William, James, Oscar, Dora, Robert, Dewey, Berry, a son Isom II, Lucy May, Bertha, and David. Isom apparently died at birth or soon after. Lucy May died as a baby or toddler. Minnie has been noted to have gone by several names (nicknames) which started in this order: Armania, Minta, Minnie, Nannie, Armina, and Mam. The name Mam was given to her by her last husband, William Thomas Liles (they had no children together). Mr. Liles is also my husband's grandfather on his mother Anna Mae's side-of-the-family. So sometime after Minnie left Harlan with her children, she met and later married Tom Liles. They lived in Morgan County, Oliver Springs, TN. She is buried at the Oliver Springs Cemetery where many of her children (Ellen, Bill, James, Oscar, Berry)are also buried. We have been having trouble with getting the right timeframe for Isom's birthdate. It is varying from census to bible entries between 5 to 10 years. He birthdate according to the Minnie's bible is March 30, 1884. The 1910 Census gives his age of 26. His obit states that he was 61 years old when he died on Feb. 14, 1947. He is buried in Harlan County. Regarding the Metcalf/Creech Info: We found a marriage certificate dated March 8, 1857 where a James Metcalf married an Annie Creech. Do you think our information on your Metcalf/Creech marriage is the same and the names of the women are mistyped. Yours is "Amy" and ours is "Annie."
