Joyce Thank you for your reply. I have extensive info on Roscoe Botts and on his second wife Bertha Thomas. but altho I have the birthdate, deathdate, and cemetary where Rosie Jeffers or Jeffires is buried at Egan , Tn., I have been unable to obtain a birth certificate, death certificate or marriage record for her and roscoe. Not knowing the exact spelling of the last name nor any family info other than she had two brothers Sam and Bill one of which died in Harlan circa 1929 or 1930 makes it so hard to recognize info even when I find it without some clear connecting link. I've searched census records to try and fird them in a general dwelling proximity, so far without success. Her short life and the scarecity of records prior to 1915 ,makes it more difficult to find records Thank You and God Bless You for your help. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, January 04, 2008 2:01 PM Subject: Re: [KYHARLAN] Fw: Jeffers, Botts RESPONSE: On the 1910 Campbell Co., TN (near Anderson Co., TN) there is an Alfred BATTS (corrected to BOTTS) Dwelling 97-101 with: BATTS, Alfred, 47, mar. 11 yrs, head, b. TN . .Betty, 33, mar. 11 yrs, 3 born; 2 living, b. TN . .Roscoe, 18, single, son, b. TN (appears to be your Roscoe as of 1910)* * . .Manda, 17, dau, b. TN . .Johnny, 10, son,b. TN . .Alfred, 7, son, b. TN NOTE: Alfred must have had an earlier marriage with someone else who is the mother of Roscoe and Manda. As of the 1900 , there is a Charles JEFFERS, age 36 living in nearby to Campbell Co., TN: Dwelling 43-54 JEFFERS, Charles, 36, b. TN . .Margrett, 22, mar. 9 yrs, b. TN . .James W., son, 6, b. TN . .Rosie J., 4, dau, b. TN * * . .Samuel, 0 yrs, son, b. TN * * Then as you have already found on the 1910 Bell Co. at Hignite: Dwelling 207 SMITH, William C., mar 2 times, head, 29, b. TN; parents b. TN - coal miner . .Nancy Jane, wife, 25, mar. 2 times, mar. "looks like 11 months or 11/12, b. TN; parents b. TN SMITH, Asberry, 71, b. TN; parents b. TN - father JEFFERS, Rose Jane, 15, adopted daughter, b. TN* * JEFFERS, Samuel, 13, adopted son, b. TN * * NOTE: It sure does appear that something very serious occurred to both Charles and Margrett JEFFERS at some point after the 1900 and prior to the 1910 that would have caused their children to be adopted by this rather young William C. SMITH also from TN and newly married. Usually there is ALWAYS some family connection. I have wondered if Nancy Jane could have been a sister to Charles JEFFERS. I see your g-grandfather on the 1930 or 1920 (forget which) and he is back in Campbell Co., TN with his second wife, Bertha and a bunch of children. You probably would find some marriages for these folks in either Campbell or Anderson Co.'s.
