They seem to be very elusive before the 1870 census. I have never been successful in tracking down James or any of his children except Hiram. Hiram is my g great grandpa. I always found it frustrating how they seemed to change what state they were born in. I've seen Hiram listed as being born in Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky. Only the Lord knows why he'd change his birth state so often. Thanks for posting this especially considering that you aren't related. Thanks so much!
