Karen: When I was growing up in Harlan County in the 40s, 50s and 60s, there was both a Cumberland Hardware and a Cumberland Funeral Home. I don't believe they were the same. The Funeral Home was located on Cumberland Avenue in Harlan, which may account for its name. My father-in-law, who still lives there, says it has now been changed to the Harlan Funeral Home, but is still located at 202 S. Cumberland Avenue in Harlan. It is owned and operated by Lewis and Phillip Bianchi. Phone number 606-573-3030. According to my phone book, which is about 10 years old, the hardware store is no longer there. To add to the mix, there is a Cumberland Valley Funeral Home, located at Cumberland, KY, a city about 15-20 miles (I forget) from Harlan but still in the county. Good luck with your hunting.
