JUST POSTING THE OBITUARY ON OMEGA HOGG FROM THE HAMILTON (OH) JOURNAL-NEWS 12/2/08 Omega Faye Ratliff Hogg had a massive stroke on April 21, 2008, the day of her beloved husband's death. She passed away peacefully on November 29, 2008. Omega was born on March 24, 1927 in Lynch, KY to Arka (Creech) and James Butler Ratliff. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Hubert Hogg, on July 26, 1946, and was the matriarch of a large and loving family. She was blessed with five children: Linda (Chris) Benninghofen, Brenda (Glen) Roddy, Dr. B. Gayle (David) Niehaus, Stephen (Cindy) Hogg and David (Debbie) Hogg. Besides her faith, family was the most important part of her life. She was happiest when spending time with her husband of 61 years, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with family to Florida, Hilton Head Island, and to the Memorial Day family tradition for nearly 50 years, Cumberland Falls. Omega was quite gifted academically. She "skipped" several grades of school and received a "full ride" (a! cademic college scholarship) that was interrupted by the occurrence of World War II. People who knew Omega well were awestruck by her ability to remember number sequences such as dates, figures, phone numbers, etc. She was a virtual encyclopedia and enjoyed learning until the day she died. She enjoyed writing (and was published), reading, gardening, cooking and baking. She and her late husband, Hubert, raised a vegetable garden and nurtured a beautiful flower garden for many years. The flower garden caused many strollers to stop by and converse about its beauty. Omega especially enjoyed the many events at the Hogg-N-Haus Family Farm over the years. All who continue to attend, especially friends Don and Gertie McCaffrey and the Hogg, Niehaus, Benninghofen, Roddy, Katalinich, and Prospero extended families will sorely miss her. She will also be missed by special Canadian friends, Bill and Mary Getty and local friends, Bill and Shirley Smith, the Milbauer family, Donnie Smith,! Thelma McDowell and many more. Besides her children, Omega leaves 11 grandchildren: Krista (Clemens II) Bramlage, Scott (Kara) Benninghofen, Alicia (Jason) Romer, Karianne (Jeff) Shaw, Rebecca (Michelle) Baker, Erik (Ann) Niehaus, Heather (Matt) Kirkendall, Jenny Hogg, Jess Hogg, Josh Hogg and Jacob Hogg. She also leaves14 great-grandchildren whose term of endearment was "Big Grandma." They are Brooke Bramlage, Nadia and Ava Benninghofen, Breanna, Brittany and Beyla Romer, Savannah, Hunter, Shelby, and Victoria Shaw, Bode Baker, Emma and Charlie Niehaus, and Ryan and Meagan Kirkendall. Omega also leaves a sister Jeann (Richard) Blakley and nephew Kevin Ratliff. She further leaves 2 half sisters, O. Faye Boyd and Wanda Sue (Ralph) Sowers and a half brother, J.B. Ratliff, all of VA. Omega was preceded in death by her mother Arka, her father James, a sister, Dorothy, a brother James, loving husband Hubert and most recently, a special son-in-law, Judge David J. Niehaus. The family would like to thank Dr. Manitsas for his gift of caring for her th! rough the years and especially the staffs at Berkely and Hospice of Hamilton for the respectful loving care that they gave her up until the time of her death. Services will be private with interment at Millville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to "The Omega and Hubert Hogg Nursing Scholarship Fund at Berkeley Square" 100 Berkeley Drive Hamilton, OH 45013. The Avance Funeral Home and Crematory, Fairfield, is serving the family. The family will accept condolences at www.avancefunneralhome.com or P.O. Box 13353 Hamilton, OH 45013.
