There was a coal mine in Bell Co owned by Rice Whitaker Johnson (1871-1941). In 1910 I know he was a County clerk so he may not have been in business then but the 1920 census says Mine operator - Industry - self. so I take that to mean he owns it. The 1930 says Operator/coal mines and it looks like it says "Owns". I have no idea how long his mine was in business but he died in 1941. I need to find the name and location of the mine. I don't know exactly where R.W. Johnson fits in as far as being related but anytime I find Charlotte Saylor (Phillip Johnson's mother) or Phillip Johnson or Phillip's son (Lee Finley Johnson), there is a Rice Whitaker Johnson not two feet away. The original Rice Whitaker Johnson ( 1820-1895) who was Rice's (1871-1941) grandfather, lived next door to Charlotte in 1840 Harlan. She was living alone and very young. Eighty years later when Finley was killed, the younger Rice Whitaker Johnson was close by. Finley had a baby that he named Rice Whitaker, not too long before he died. So I'm thinking that by studying the two Rice Whitaker Johnsons I can learn more about Charlotte and Phillip and Finley. At one of Phillip's marriages he listed his father as Isaac Johnson. In 1840 Charlotte (Phillip's mother) is listed as Charlotte Johnson so there is a chance that Isaac actually existed and therefore R.W. was her brother-in-law, but those are the only two references I've ever seen to a Johnson husband for her. I am 99% certain that Phillip's father was not a Johnson. Finley is the one I'm most interested in at the moment so I'm studying the young RW Johnson. Which brings me back to the question - How do I go about finding the information on RW's mine?
