This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3AB.2ACI/6792.1.2 Message Board Post: Hello, Please come back to your original query and provide us some more information. Do this by posting a RESPONSE to your own message. Don't post a NEW message. That way, it will all stay together. Here are some things that quickly come to my mind and any answers you can provide would be most helpful in someone being able to help YOU: l. WHO was your father and when was he born and where did he die. WHO did he marry (maiden name please). Besides yourself, who are some of your siblings and where did your parents live & where were their children born (county & state) - - list all and where they are buried. 2. You state your paternal grandfather was "a" Frank JOHNSON b. 1883 and died. 1937. And, you know he was born somewhere in VA. My questions are: (a) did he have any siblings and name any you know of (b) Have you ordered your grandfather's death certificate? This could give you his parents. Where did your grandfather and grandmother live and where did they die and where are they buried. 3. You may have met some of your cousins from either your mother's or father's sides of your family. Where did they live? What were their names? What approx. were their ages. Lastly, the surname, JOHNSON , is pretty much like being named SMITH or JONES. There are a big bunch of them. The first place your grandfather is going to show up is possibly with his parents on the 1900 somewhere. Everything you can tell us from some of the questions I have posed above will put you closer to learning more about your family. When I see you post more information, I will see what I can do to help you. There is just too little information and too vague information for me to begin to tackle it now. Dear List Members, Now that all parties have gone to their rest, I am seeking to understand the truth behind tales whispered about my grandparents. Please know that I love them both dearly and nothing I do or don't find will ever change that. It's just that they came up hard and I know it troubled them. James Earl EVANS wasb. 17 August 1912 in Nelson Co., KY to Howard Cox EVANS and Mary Lee "Mayme" SUMMERS and died 16 April 2004 in Bardstown, Nelson Co., Kentucky. According to the stories told by my family members, James Earl EVANS had a female child out of wedlock c. 1930. The name of the mother and child are unknown. This may have been the cause of " Jimmy'" EVANS leaving Nelson Co., to work in the mines of Harlan Co., KY. Was he related to the Evans of Harlan Co., KY and staying with family when in Harlan? Question #1: What became of the unknown child? I have not found any mention of a child born c.1930 to James Earl "Jimmy" Evans in Nelson County or Harlan Co., KY records. What became of unwed mothers of this period? James Earl EVANS stated ( he was known to sometimes embellish stories and fill in blanks fanciful ways) that he came to Harlan County at age 18 and entered "the coal business." This would have been c. 1930. He didn't take long to find a new girl friend. In a 1999 James Earl told me, "I met Sylvia (Syliva Jewel BALL) when she was just 14 years old. Her school was across the railroad tracks from the commissary and she had come in to buy something to eat." If one goes by this tale Sylvia Jewel BALL would have been born c. 1916. However, Sylvia Jewel BALL was SUPPOSEDLY b. 5 August 1921 in Harlan Co., KY to "Silus" M Solomon BALL and "Debby" Deborah SARGENT and died 28 June 1986 in Bardstown, KY Question #2: No birth records for a Sylvia Jewel BALL exist! This is the only 5 august 1921 Ball child born to a Sargent/Sergent mother BALL | VACILLERO | 2 | 08 | 05 | 1921 | SARGENS | BELBY | 093 | 46423 | 1921 | Unless the County Clerk had very limted spelling, poor hand writting, and a belly full of moonshine this birth record is a wee bit of a strain to believe. Is it possible to know what the 2 and the 093 46423 mean? Are these page and volume numbers? On 29 May 1939 James Thomas EVANS was born to Jimmy EVANS and Sylvia BALL. James Tomas EVANS d. 21 Sept 1939. He is said to be burried on a hillside in Ages, Harlan Co., KY above the home were Debby (Sargent) BALL lived. Question # 3: Where are the birth and death records for James Thomas EVANS? Thank you for any and all leads, memories of the persons involved, and or clarifications of "embellishments." MB
