This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: CREECH, DIXON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3AB.2ACI/6848 Message Board Post: Below are three messages that need to be read by all. The first is Elva's comment to Charlotte regarding her response to Connie's posting about the Bell Co Historical Society Museum's procurement of William Creech and Sally Dixon's book on living in Cumberland/Poor Fork and their part in the establishment of the Pine Mtn Settlement School, as well as the Bell Co Historical Society's summer hours. Harlan Co has numerous connections to Bell Co since its formation in 1867. Also, the Pine Mountain Settlement School book is an extremely rare item of which only a few are in print. After enduring a divorce, Charlotte wrote in support of Connie's posting because she was glad to see it. The second message is Elva's admonition to Charlotte for writing in support of Connie. Her anger reigns through, and it seems to be that Elva is an authority monger. Anyway, her private message to Charlotte speaks for itself. Statements such as, "I don't know how you keep up the all the names you use. I hope that someday you find one that you really like." are just full of vindictiveness and are totally unnecessary. In a work setting, she would be asked to undergo anger management training. I worked in the court and school systems in both Cumberland and Cawood for several years, and positive relations continue to exist between the two counties. Further, many of them are aware of this particular situation and are not pleased about it. It certainly doesn't represent Harlan Co well. The third message is Elva's message to Connie remonstrating her for posting the innocuous message without asking Elva's permision first. It seems to me that Elva has too much control of the list and board, and nothing is being done about it. If you'll notice, the majority of the posts for information occur on the message board that Joyce Collins answers, and few appear on the list at all. from a message dated 6/11/2005 kiezza@aol.com 5:23 PM Daylight Savings Time writes: Charolette Gee, what a surprise, u sub to the Harlan list after raising such cane with me, when I ask u the same thing not to forward news or URLs before asking the administrator. You demanded that I remove the few things you donated to the Harlan web site, which I graciously did. I see you have changed your name again. I don't know how u keep up the all the names you use. I hope someday u find one that you really like. Usually after someone has been put on the reject list, they come back under an assumed name. I will continue to monitor your posts as you have done it again. The rules were made for every one to follow. If everyone broke the rules of the list it would be in turmoil. Again I suggest u read your welcome letter you received when u joined the Harlan Mailing List. Thanks Elva Admin. We really appreciate it and all the hard work you all do at the museum. The museum is a big asset for all of Southeastern Kentucky. Please read the rules of the list that you received when you subscribed to the Harlan mailing list. Have you posted this to the Bell County mailing list, where officially it should be posted. We have a very busy list and do our best with all the posts to keep the lists running smoothly for everyone's enjoyment. We are open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, as well as every first & third Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM. Our exhibits cover the towns of Pineville and Middlesboro, as well as Bell County. Recently, Dr Jeff Woods loaned us a rare copy of Wm & Sally Dixon Creech's small book about their life on Poor Fork/Cumberland and the establishment of Pine Mountain Settlement School. It is a real treasure! So many of our Bell Co families have Harlan Co connections. The Howards, Baileys, Eagers, Rices, Halls, Brocks, Arnetts, Hoskinses, and other families have lived in both Harlan and Bell Counties for two hundred years. If you're in Middlesboro, we would love to have you come by to see us on 21st St just past the post office and historic coal house. Regards, Connie Hoskins, Museum Director
Please pardon me, how does one privately contact the list administrator? Thank you for your assistance, Mary Beth Abordo Riviera Elementary http://www.geocities.com/marybethsclass/ http://www.geocities.com/vernalpool_boggs/
If Joyce Collins has a lot of replies to the list it is because she knows to hit "Reply All" when responding instead of "Reply" as most of us are prone to do. And she is one of a handful of very generous people who have many resources at their fingertips and give willingly of their time. Those of us researching in Harlan Co. are lucky to have them. I know that Elva does not screen every message that makes it to the list before it is posted as it appears you are inferring. She may take care of a problem after someone breaks the rules which is just fine with me. If you have a personal problem with her, than please keep it personal.
