My family has tried many times to contact Harlan County. The cemetery up in Gabes Branch (Ages) is accessible. The path is to the top of the mountain and to the cemetery is steep and dangerous. There is money allocated by the state for these cemeteries however trying to get any help from the county is like pulling teeth. It is a shame that our deceased forefathers of Harlan County are treated with such disgrace and indignity. One of my descendants buried there is a Civil War Veteran, his stone is falling apart and I would like to get a new stone for him. He was a Confederate Soldier. He owned all of Ages Bottom for many years, his name was Hugh Smith.
