John H. CREECH (s/o Elijah Lee CREECH and Sarah DAY) was a Corp. Company H, 47th KY Inf. in the Civil War. He was a teacher, farmer, carpenter, surveyor and veterinarian b. Oct 9, 1833 in Harlan Co.; married June 1854 in Harlan Co. to Mary Ann KILBURNE b. July 24, 1836 in Harlan Co.; died Aug 8, 1903." No parents for her are listed. An additional note states some of her information was researched by Arthur CREECH, Stella CREECH FIELDS and Lydia CREECH SHEPARD. Twelve childen are listed for John H. beginning with a William A. b. Aug 1855 and ending with John D. b. Jun 1880. I also see that Frances Y. DUNHAM in her annotated 1850 shows that in that same year of 1854, John H. married in Lee Co. (no state shown) to a Mary SMITH. On the 1850 Harlan Co., John H. is listed with his family and was 16 years of age. On the 1860 Harlan Co., he shows up as follows: Dwelling 828-828 CREECH, John H., 29, b. KY . .Mary Ann, 24 . .Martin, 4, b. KY Now I see the problem with their being two John CREECH's and the apparent corrrect one would be living next to his parents, Elijah and Sarah DAY CREECH as follows: Dwelling 775-775 CREECH, John, 25, b. kY . .Mary, 21, b. VA . .William S., 4, b. ARK . .Joseph, 3, b. ARK . .Jonathan K., 1, b. KY . .Nancy, 20, b. KY (don't see a Nancy listed as his sister in 1850 so have no idea who this is.) I don't see a marriage in Lee Co., VA between this Mary and John CREECH. This is from a book of transcribed Lee Co., VA marriages I have. In the 1850 Lee Co., VA Fed. Census, there are the following KILBOURNE families with a Mary in house: Dwelling 364 KILBOURNE, John, 34, b. NC - farmer . .Nancy, 26, b. VA . .Mary, 9, b. VA * * . .William, 7, b. VA . .Rebecca, 5, b. VA . .Martin, 3, b. VA . Elijah, 4 mo's, b. VA Although there were several KILBOURNE living in Lee Co. as of the 1850 and one living right next to a CREECH family, the only family with a Mary is listed above. You might want to check to see what on line listings under the main Harlan Co. website that Elva NOLAN MORGAN may have on line that could confirm the 1854 marriage between this John or John H. CREECH and Mary KILBOURNE, etc. spellings. Further clarifying that John H. CREECH with the wife, Mary and son, Martin on the 1860 Harlan Co., here is that family as of the 1870 with annotations from the transcribed census sold by Janette and Gertrude NOLAN: Dwelling 65-65 CREECH, John, 35, b. Hello to all, I have been searching for the exact parents of my husband's 3rd great-grandmother, Mary Creech. I have not found a record of her marriage to Campbell Thompson, SR but it should have occurred around 1841, probably in Lee Co, VA. Mary was born about 1823 according to census records. In 1820 there was an Elijah Scrich (Age 26-45) living in Lee County. In 1830 he was 40-50, also living in Lee Co. and had a daughter age 5-10. Again in 1840 he was 50-60, living in Western Dist of Lee Co. with a daughter age 20-30. Two other daughters near this age have disappeared from his family. Living next door was William Thompson, father of Campbell Thompson, SR. He had a son, age 20-30 living with him. Campbell Sr. and Mary Creech could possibly have married soon before or after 1840. By 1850, Campbell and Mary (both were listed as 28 years old) had 4 children; Sarah,8; Catharine,6; Clarinda,4; and Jackson ,11/12. Also living with them was Jesse Tharp, age 18,( who I believe was a cousin--Campbell Thompson's mother was Elizabeth Tharp. ) They were living next door to Campbell's parents, William C. Thompson and also to Elijah Creech, Age 70 who is remarried to Nancy, Age 40. On April 19, 1852 Campbell Thompson Sr. was found murdered according to the Lee Co. death records. The murder was never solved. In the following census, 1860, Mary has remarried to Jesse Tharp. Their marriage record in the Lee Co Court House says Mary was the daughter of "E & S Creech". I feel certain that Elijah Scrich and Elijah Creech are one and the same her father is the Elijah Scrich who was living next door to them in 1850 and 1860, but have no proof. Elijah Creech also had a daughter, Clarinda who was 19 in 1850. Mary and Campbell named a daughter Clarinda. Does anyone have any info on this Elijah Scrich/Creech and his wife's and children? I would appreciate any info that anyone has to offer.
