Although I am related to the CREECHs, I am not familiar with your family or this particular incident. You have provided NO dates or particulars that would make it easy to establish any time of a timeline. I am not really clear on the story you present. Here are some of my questions that could help others help you. l. Where and when were you born and what was YOUR name as you knew it? You state you have found out your maiden name was DIXON. Makes it sound as though you grew up with some other name and later in life discovered you were a DIXON. Is that correct? Provide the details. 2. Who was your birth mother and what was her full name and approx. age. Who was she married to? 3. This baby you write about whose name was Violet that you think was your grandmother. I am trying to figure out if she was a child of Joe JENKINS and his wife or was she a child of this Hascue DOCKERY and his wife. You don't say! 4. The story states that Hascue DOCKERY had only been married a matter of months but it does NOT give the name of his wife. Who was she? Do you know who her foster parents might have been? 4. You state you have learned of a relationship between yourself and Dewey and Hannah CREECH. Who were they? How old approx. where they? The shooting as presented took place in 1926. As of the 1920 Fed. Census, the Joe JENKINS family looked as follows: 1920 Harlan Co., KY - Harlan Dwelling 118-119 JENKINS, Joe, 25, b. kY - coal mine laborer . .Judie, wife, 24, b. KY . .Charley, 5, son, b. KY (Charley CREECH from Judy CREECH's first marriage) In further researching this, I found that Judie/Judy or sometimes listed as Julia was a CREECH. She was b. Mar 1895 and was the daughter of Daniel Boone CREECH and Delia BREWER. Judy CREECH mar. July 4, 1913 in Harlan Co. to a Roscoe CREECH b. Jul 1893 in Owsley Co. He died in 1917 in Harlan Co., KY. On the KBI, Charlie's birth is listed as: CREECH, Julie had Charlie CREECH on 8-7-1914 in Owsley Co., kY; Vol. 83, Cert 41392 There are a couple other births which "may or may not" be the same Judy/Julia CREECH mar. to Joe JENKINS. You would have to order their birth records. Judie CREECH had Roy JENKINS b. 6-8-1925 in Harlan Co., KY; Vol. 061, Cert 30330 Julia CREECH had Ruth JENKINS b. 7-14-1922 in Harlan Co.; KY; Vol. 067, Cert 33367 Regardless, there is a DEATH record which shows her death: Julia JENKINS died in Harlan Co., KY on 3-25-1926 at the age of 28 years, Vol. 014, Cert 06619 Assuming both she and her husband, Joe JENKINS were shot and killed by this Hascue DOCKERY, then all or some of these children had to be reared up by someone else. I could not locate a death record for Joe JENKINS. I could not locate a death record for Hascue DOCKERY in the correct year. I did locate one record and it might be him. You would have to order it from the State of KY to know for sure. DOCKERY, Hascue died 7-13-1928 in Lyon County, KY; Vol. 42, Cert 20638, at the age of 27 years NOTE: You can get these death records for one dollar each by going to the Google Search Engine and typing in: Chester+Ward You will see the particulars for ordering those records. Going backwards to the 1910, this would appear to be Judy CREECH with her family: 1910 Harlan Co., KY Dwelling 117 - Greasy Fork CREECH, Daniel, 67, mar. 3 times, mar. 2 yrs, b. kY; parents b. KY . Elizabeth, wife, 42, mar. 2 times, ma.r. 2 yrs, 5 born; 5 living, b. KY; parents b. KY BEGLEY, Elijah, stepson, 17, singel, KY . .Oscar, stepson, 13, KY . .Mary A., stepdau, 12, KY . .Orlena, stepdau, 10, KY . .Denver, stepson, 8, KY CREECH, Bettie, dau, 19, single, KY . .Harvey, son, 17, single, KY . .Juda, dau, 15, single, KY * * * You mentioned a Violet in your e-mail with NO clarification of her surname. I found these births which may or may not have a darn thing to do with your story.: From the KBI: Violet DOCKERY had in Harlan Co.: DIXON, Georgie B. b. 11-16-1942 DIXON, Forshea b. 1-18-1944 DIXON, James S. b. 2-9-1950 DIXON, Dwight E. b. 10-20-1951 Perhaps if you come back to your original query and answer some of the questions I posed by responding to my posting, maybe we can find out a little more.
