Hi Lisa and others I have that magazine, it was Life and the published date was May 29, 1939. I don't know which mine it was, the article doesn't say. KY, Governor A. B. "Happy" Chandler sent 900 national guardsmen into Harlan County, to protect the scabs working no-non-union, while the coal miners who were bargaining for a better union contract were on strike. I have been told it was Crummies Creek. I am sending my reply to the list as I get many questions regarding this issue. If u would like a scanned copy of the photo/s, let me know. His name was Steve H. Mitchell (b-1896-d-1972). He lived at Cranks Creek, KY. Do you know anything about that?
